Default what is the most oil intensive 4 stroke?

the ds250 only needs an oil change every 50 hours of riding...... but my one friend has a yz250f and does it every 16 hours and my other friend has a crf250r and does it every 4 hours.......

im just thinking- which quad needs the least oil changes? (out of sport quads) im guessing the ds650 can go a long time without an oil change- (6k miles in dakar right?)

Oil is cheap and easy to come by. Performance is a bit more elusive.......

You need to read this: http://www.belray.com/scripts/future...f-ca9069443184

The new generation of way "over square" engines with fewer rings and little slipper pistons, experience a large amount of blow by. This means that the fuel contaminates the oil very quickly. This thins the oil out, and it looses its lubricating ability. Thus, the new generation of 450's, all need frequent oil changes!

It means that your old school design DS, is a dinosaur that doesn't need such frequent oil changes. But, I don't think I know anybody who has a 450 that wants to give it up for your 250!

I change my oil before I go on big trips, and often times when i'm bored. You can't change the oil too much...Right?? Take care of your quad, and it will take care of you!

I change the oil in my crf 250r every 2 hrs racing. Think about it: 650 ml of oil to lubricate and engine that can hit 13500 revs! High performance engines need high maintence. I have heard of some racers who can destroy the oil in the 250f in about 20min, this was found by testing the oil. The quads prob wouldnt be revving as hard or as hig so you would get longer out of the oil.

BTW 50 hrs of riding on the same oil seems very extreme to me.

I know I'm not gonna let the wife's ds go that long with the same oil in it. You do realize the ds has no filter other than an oil screen.

Edit: Note that is the ds250.

The owner's manual says it needs an oil change every 50 hours- but i do it around 25 hours- thats when the oil starts turning dark,
Most of you have also been on that one site about the "break-in process"- the one that tells you to ride it hard to seal the rings- (motoenusa.com?something like that)
I read somewhere on that site (well i think it was that one) in an FAQ- one of the questions was something like "black oil is bad oil?" and the site said you dont have to change it right away if the oil is black

Is 50 hours of riding really that extreme? How do guys in dakar do it then? or the baja 1000- they race FOREVER- they are so loooong

my dads john deere skid-steer loader needs an oil change every 500 hours- but then again it holds litres and is only a 4 cyl, 2.4L engine (and its diesel, dont know if that makes a diff)

Your dads skidsteer probly wont run anything over 3000 rpm, and will likely hold like 20L of oil.
