tire size? polaris 300 xplorer
#1
i've got a 99 polaris xplorer 300 4x4. i am wanting to upgrade the tires on it. i notice they are 2 different sizes, and i realize that if i get the ratio out of whack it's going to affect it.
what i'm needing to know is what size tires are stock (i don't believe what is on there is stock now) and what size i can put on there... maybe just a bit larger than the stock ones.
the tires that are on it right now are a bit smaller on the front than on the rear.
let me know guys!

thanks for the quick response!
couple questions....
1. what do the dimensions mean? i'm guessing first number is total diametere of tire, second is tire width, and third is rim diameter?
2. what do you mean "put monster tires on it"? you mean go huge? if i do that, how do i figure out which sizes are the corret size to put front and rear? i don't want to mess something up when i put it in 4wd.
i hope that makes sense. i've always been told it's like putting 2 different gear ratios in the front and rear differentials of a 4wd vehicle. you put it in 4wd, and the rear tires will be spinning at a different rate than the front tires, which could screw things up bigtime....
thanks again!

you are correct on the tire size numbers. i mean i wouldnt put any more then 1 size up on the tires or it will loose alot of power trying to turn the bigger tires. so ive been told(dont know for 100%) but the polaris front ends are not like on 4x4 trucks and differnt size tires dont hurt it. but anyways i wouldnt go more then 25"(tall) and on the front and 24" tall on back. maybe 1" wider on back and front wouldnt hurt. good luck.

i'm sure you meant 25's on the back and 24's on the front.
thanks a million man... i'm going to start looking.
you can mount atv tires yourself right? or do you have to have a machine to do it like car tires?
sorry for all the questions!

Hey,
I just bought Dirt Devils at treadepot.com for my 98 Xplorer 300... went stock height, just 1" wider front & rear... look good & alot meatier than the stock 489's that were on it. They're similar to ITP mudlites but are supposed to wear alot better.
Got the 23X8-10's for the front & 24X11-10's for the rear. These are good tires with a 6-ply rating and the best part is the fronts are $35ea. and the rears are $44ea. .. came in right around $200 w/shipping for all 4, This was the best price I could find on them, including Ebay. Oh Yeah.... and they sent me the rears in the newer DirtDevil II tire (they have some extra dimples on the flat part of the tread area)
Try this if interested.... http://treadepot.com/ATVgroupdetail.html
....If that doesn't work just go to treadepot.com & look at ATV tires listed by brand (they have these listed under Chen-Shin as the manufacturer... I dont think they are though)
