Kazuma Utility 100
#1
My grandson has his heart set on a small utility quad. The Kazuma Utility 100 from Raceway ATV to be exact.
Anyone have any experience with this quad? How about from this general family of quads? I have heard a lot of good comments about Raceway as a company but would appreciate any input you feel appropriate.

All Chinese quads share some similarities.
First, they are not for folks that just want to put gas in them and ride. If that is what you are looking for (or your grandson wont have access to a dad/grandpa mechanic) then get a major brand as they are gas and go.
Generally, something will need to be tightened or adjusted after every couple hours of riding. Things rattle off and stuff can break. They are not Hondas...but at the same time they don't cost $2200 either.
My son got by for a couple years on Chinese quads just yard riding and riding at my dad's farm. When it was time for a real quad (as in real trail riding) I got him an Arctic Cat and he is thrilled. We have put on 20+ hours and I have yet to turn a wrench on it.
Chinese ATVs certainly have their place. One strong point is the motors themselves are quite reliable. The "other" components is were most of the problems are.
Our little Roketa (my daughters now) has over 100 hours on it and runs like a top. Lots of piddly things have gone wrong with it over the past two years...but I do all my own wrenching and genuinely enjoy working on them. We paid $600 shipped for it...we have certainly gotten our money out of it. Dont let anyone fool you about parts...they are easy to get. Noone really makes a better Chinese quad. These companies that sell them buy them from unrelated sub-contractors and all parts are sourced from wherever they can get their hands on them. They of course can set certain quality standards and you will see certain brands with semi-decent products. However, noone is turning out Japanese quality units. Period.
If it will be around you and you are a decent wrench..they are bargains. If there are no wrenches around...they will be a 200 pound sore spot in your garage that makes you curse every time you gaze upon it...

Thanks for the comments, I have heard repeatedly about the routine maintenance of these quads and will be available to do this work. If I'm not around my son, the dad, will be able to take care of it.
Would appreciate any comments from folks that have had this specific model and any problems they have had.

Our grandson is 5 but tall for his age. He is about the size of the average six year old. I was wondering if the seat would be too high for him but if a 7 year old might be outgrowing this quad it should be fine for him. Thanks.
