Synthetic Rope for Warn winch 2.5CI
#1
Okay just went for the synthetic rope a second time. The first time the rope I got was not even made by warn and was not made specifically for the winch drum. The rope had frayed while using to pull a plow. The protective sheath got caught in the winch bars going across. Guess we wrapped it wrong.
This time I got the Synthetic winch rope kit with a new roller fair lead. I failed to replace our last fair lead as we only got the rope.
The reason for my post is I am having trouble yet again getting this rope to wrap correctly and evenly so that the protective sheath at the end does not obstruct the pulling force and get tangled in the bar going across the drum.
My question is how do all of you wrap your winches and what is the best method? Do you hook it to a tree and reel the ATV in with just the weight of the quad as tension?
It's definitely easier with two people without a remote because one person can hold the button while the other guides the rope onto the drum.
I am having trouble understanding that if you wrap the winch rope properly the first time and use it, will it wind correctly on its own or is it critical to pay special attention to wrapping each and every time?
The protective sheath is proving to become trouble soon enough if the rope is not wrapped properly. Do most of you use it or do you leave it off?
I have the aluminum drum on my winch.
I'm using the winch on a 06 Brute force 750I 4x4.
Thanks for your help

I have the synthetic rope winch and it seems to work good. The protective sheath does get caught if not guided in properly, but it's only the last two feet of the winch. I hook it up on my rack anyways.
I wouldn't use it for plowing, as you know it will ruin it. I would suggest using parts of the old line that you replaced for plowing.

That may be true chumley, but I use a roller fairlead on mine. I think the important things is having a new roller fairlead to use. Some were switching from a wire to a rope and not changing the drum or fairlead. They are normally all chewed up from the wire.
