Wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what could be wrong with my 04 Rubicon. For the past 1000 miles, I 've had a problem with a knock in the motor. It would only knock when the machine was warm and had sat for a few minutes. Then the motor will knock for about 45 seconds, then it goes away. My dealer just tore the motor down, and found that I had a bad cam, and lifters. But after a few miles of running it, the problem has returned. Anyone have any ideas???

 

My rancher does that, i don't think its anything to worry about. depends on how loud it is?

 

How many miles do you have on your Rancher if I may ask? I have 5,300 on my Rubicon. As to how load it is, hmmmm....well loud enough for the person next to me to hear it.

 

Mine has about 3400 miles on it and mine can be heard by the person on side of me

 

Sounds like my situation then. Mine just started doing this about 1000 miles ago. If you don't mind me asking, how long has yours been knocking. Does yours go away after awhile? Thanks

Mine's been making that noise for about 500-1000 miles now, other than that it runs fine, but with mine the sounds stays but as you give it some gas it starts to go away

 

Man, with all the honda's out there, a person would think that more people would have this problem or know what is causing it.

 

yea I brought mine to a local atv mechanic and he adjusted the valves, that helped some but he said he didn't think there was anything wrong with it. and he's been working on them for 43 years

 

My bro's 400ex started with a light tick that gradually got louder until it became a knock. After we tore it down we found the timing chain was stretched pretty bad. Don't know if this helps or not but thats all I got.
