doggy raptor, someone help!!!

I have a 01 raptor 660 that I got from my dad. Ever since he had it, it always had a top end rattle. I bought it and it seemed to get worse I have already gone through the one way bearing bs and I just could not live with the rattle any more. So I took it to a guy and he replaced the timing chain and gears and noticed that the cam had some wear so I went with the stage one hot cam. I figured if I am going to spend the cash I may as well get a little bang for the buck, but not to much so I do not loose any dependabilety. Well 570.00 later I rode the bike some what easy to break in the cam, tonight after almost getting busted by the dnr over some bs I rode in an open field and the bike feels doggy. It was me my friend with a bone stock 660 and my dad with an auto suzuki 700 4x4 in drag after drag, and guess who came in last every time. I am almost sick to my stomach and need a direction to start trouble shooting. By the way the rattle is gone but now it has a top end tick. I rode my friends 660, same as mine to the tee and my bike never had that kind of power, when we raced he pulled me the whole time. WTF someone please help, I always seem to pick the bad apple!!!

To my knowledge everything but the cam is stock. I thought I might gain a little from it because the company claims it works well with the stock pieces. Should I do a compresion test and if so will it be any different than the manuel calls for do to the cam? Also his bike had a hair more low end than mine butt mainly mid and top end when his (stock) comes to life, in comparison mine falls on its face. By the way thanks for any input I am greatful.

i`d re-jet the carbs.....if it ain`t blowing smoke out of the exhaust real bad i wouldn`t say its a compression issue.usually when you upgrade the cam you need to open up the intake and exhaust with a slip on muffler and re-jet/k&n filter.i`d almost bet money on that being your problem.

Check your timing as well, could you be a tooth out since your cam install? (if it's running that poorly). the tick could be improperly adjusted valves, set the lash according to the hot cam reccomendation, not yamahas, it's too tight. a more aggresive cam will make more noise, mine ticks a little too, with the stg 1 cam. could be jetting but if the bike ran good b4 the cam install it should be real close with the new cam. check the connections around your coil, (could be inconsistent spark). pull your CDI box off the bracket and check the wiring there as well, iv'e had bare wires short out on me there from vibration, and make the bike run like crap. could be alot of things though, good luck.

If there is ticking or rattling, then it is possible that the autodecompression pin in the cam was installed 180 out. I have seen certified yamaha dealers do this. This dumps your compression while it is running...not just at startup. This is a major power killer. If the ticking sound can be heard in the exaust header near the head, this is most likely what is going on. Got to pull the valve cover off to fix, or take it back if you had it done.
