Hey guys,

Im working on a girls, yes a girls Raptor 660 with a yousimuria slip on.
I got it in the shop thinking it was just a dirty carb but under further inspection I dont know what it is. When it is cold it will no start with the choke or by giving it gas. I wont flood it out and im not sure why, but it soon does wear the battery down. And many times I have to hook up the big charger to it to get it to turn over fast enought to fire.
When I can get it going and get it hot, it runs fine.
I was thinking jetting, but I rejetted it and its right where it should be nice and tan but when I run the sh*t out of it. It tends to get a hint of whiteness in it, what whould be causing that?
I know there arent any air leaks. I have played with the air/fuel mixture screw and the neddles. And I still and getting nothing.

Sounds to me like you're still lean. A cold engine needs more gas, and a white spark plug means LEAN! To crank the 660 I used to have when it was cold, I would have to turn on the switch, the key, choke it and DONT TOUCH THE GAS! Dont even look at the gas! If I did, it would flood out every time for some reason and it was completely stock.

 

He's right before I did everything to minre my 01 Rap would do the same in the winter and It would back fire alot too I had to change spark and get the right jets in it....

 

What size jets did you put in.
I have 165 mains
If i go to 170 it runs like it is to rich?

i agree with warptor i start mine with the choke on and dont touch the gas after a little bit it should warm up and run fine.

 

It could be that the intake valves need adjustment. The intake valves on the Raptor wear quickly, they get tight against the tappets and don't seat. It makes it very difficult to start when it's cold because it can't get enough compression. But it will start fine when warm. Had this happen to mine. If they haven't been adjusted in a while, this is probably it. An easy way to check it is to turn the engine over by hand while listening at the intake with the filter off. If you hear air escaping on the compression stroke, then that's it.

 

How's the compression on the thing? Sounds like it's lean and maybe compression low, , Like Master said, worn valves or P/S. .
