HELP-Looking for the right kids quad???
#1
Okay we purchased a mini XL70 from Raceway it was a nightmare never ran, and all my son did was cry over it. So we are now moving on but Iam being so cautious...
From what I gathered Yamaha 50cc sre out, not very good reviews???
Other options
Kawaski 70cc
Polaris Predator or Sportsman
Any or all opinions would be truly appreciated. My son is 5 so this is something he will be growing with and I want to have for a long time as I have 2 smaller children as well.
Thanks!~

We have had a Yamaha Raptor 50 for one year. It is a 2004. We paid $1,200 for it used in Texas. It has never had a single issue. But it only goes about 12 mph, so for our 8 & 9 year old, it now seems slow to them. But reliability? It has been rock solid and bullet-proof. It has been a good quad.
I'd sell you mine, but I am too far away. Check craigslist and ebay and your local ads.

Maybe check out 90cc Polaris youth models, now fourstroke and they have reverse, working lights and brake lt, and horn. Have the Pink Outlaw for daughter but saving in the crate till Christmas since it is an LE and hard to get. Or Yamaha Grizzly 125 auto with cvt and reverse, tough machine, son has one now for two years. I'm just sold on reverse, makes everyones ride more enjoyable.

We have the Arctic Cat DVX 50 and it runs great, is very sturdy and attractive, and has lots of low-end power for going up hills and the like. We did get bigger tires for it, however, and now it takes the mudholes miuch more easily.

Dear Mommaof3,
I was shocked to hear that about your machine from Raceway...how was their service?
About a new machine. The Honda TRX 90 is the most dependable, rugged, long lasting small machine out there (others are easier to use initially). If you get a 50cc, you will out grow it soon. However, any of the Big 4 or 5 all make great machines and you can't go wrong.

Wow, you sound like a salesman, SeaDog,LOL, Lots of Suzukis/Kawi's and Polaris youths around here, and a few Chinese, but only know of one Honda youth, it only lasted 5 years, not bashing them, maybe that fellow got a "bad" one, but he was told the same thing also about being the best, but not as good as those two little 70cc suzuki's from the 80's. I tried to buy it from him last year, but he had started to "part it out" on ebay. But then again thats probably just one out of many, I don't know.

Hi, We bought our daughter a Polaris Predator 90 and it goes thru anything, but everytime we ride, the brakes go out. Spent $2300 and have only had it one season. We are seriously considering getting rid of it. I guess it depends if you are trail riders or just riding on your lawn. My guess is because of the mud that gets in the brakes, but our last ride there was barely any mud, and they still went out. Don't know maybe because they get hot. From one mom to another.

try a kawi 90 cc i have 3 kids myself and my 8 year old was not happy with the 50 he could not keep up with the other kids has 90 now and is very pleased also most 4 wheelers have throttle screws so you can adjust for the kids when you feel they can handle a little more

I think Kawi is made by Kymco, and so is the Arctic Cat 50 and 90. At this point, I would go straight to Kymco - it is the same bike, and cheaper here in Canada, and best of all the 50 and the 90 come with lights, and a one-year warranty (extended to 2-years powertrain here in Toronto, I believe until May 31 or something like that.)
I have found that Arctic Cat dealers' knowledge of the 4-stroke 90 and particularly the 50 is VERY limited, and so you aere probably better off dealing directly with Kymco, as they have been building these things forever and so parts and techie knowledge are probably much more available.
