Unusual Raptor Question
#1
Back in 1990 and 1991 I had a sport quad and had lots of fun getting serious air. I am considering the Raptor and Kodiak. The Raptor suits my needs better, however, I am concerned about injuries given it's power and capabilities. I did a lot of things we normally do with sport quads, and was lucky I had no injuries. I have not had the pleasure of driving a Raptor, but I rode a YZ125 this summer and it's still amazing what will be done with power when you have it at your fingertips. What are the odds of serious injuries on a Raptor? Your opinions and experiences are appreciated. I have been ready to purchase for about a month, but I go back and forth everyday on the final decision. Thanks. Jeff

You won't get hurt if you don't take risks. I don't take much (If there were good looking jumps around here, I would already have kissed the ground), and never fell off my shee. And I have fun...maybe next summer, I will find some hardcore spots and explode my face ans the shee...but for now..I'll crash with the snowmobile.
I don't know if you get hurt more with a Raptor or Kodiak...at equivalent speed, the Raptor is billions times safer...which pushes you to go faster...closer to its limits.
So whatever quad you take, you'll try and gt it to its limits...and eventually fall. When this will happen, it will probably hurt more on the Raptor...unless you've chickened out before crashing (which usually happens to me on the long bumpy straightaways). On the other side, a Raptor is way more fun than a Kodiak. Mudding is fun, rock crawling also...but I prefer nac nacs

If your scared or worried about getting hurt stick with a bicycle. The Raptor is a mean beast and will bite you if your not careful. The Raptor is for experienced riders only and is not made for apprehensive riders. If I were you I'd go with the Honda 250ex. Just my 2 cents

The only thing that will get hurt is the Raptor itself. Do a search on it first, and look at all of the injuries it has sustained, then decide if you want one. All quads are very dangerous with the wrong person on them.

I used to have a YZ250 and before that a piped/carbed Suzuki GS700ES streetbike (like pre-GSX-R ride). I have a mild Chevelle/mid-Jetski and the Raptor hasn't been a problem as far as safety is concerned. This is my first quad (ridden a few, owned none) and my first off-road bike in 5 years. For example, the Raptor power comes on smooth and strong - definitely NOT like my YZ. I used the throttle restrictor for a month to get used to the HP and to support a responsible break-in. There is nothing about the Raptor that is scary, hairy, or dangerous if you are respectful about what lies under your thumb. Take it easy, remember YOUR limits, and have fun. After about 10 hours of riding I can peg the throttle, jump for about 6' of vertical, and have little fear. Lots of respect, no injuries, a good boot and helmet, and some common sense will keep you from serious injury.

I appreciate people posting that you should ride within your limits and that is critical but the point that can't be stressed enough is that we will all likely have the occasional getoff but the best way to be prepared is by buying a full set of the best riding gear you can afford. Honestly even the lower priced gear from the major manufacturers is good stuff these days. You'll be safer and look better doing it. Don't be one of the idiots I run into that think riding gear is sneakers, shorts, a tank top and sunglasses. The best helmet you can buy is a must-period...gloves, long sleeves and pants and boots should be the bare minimum before you throw a leg over any machine, particularly one intended for spirited performance.
