27's or 28's. Opinions please

My X2 has the 500HO and not the 800 and I don't want to completely bog myself down with power loss, but I would like to upgrade my tires/wheels from my 26" PXT's to 27 or 28" Mudlite XTRs. I will be putting them on ITP SS alloy wheels (14"). Do any of you have an opinion on whether the 28" will be too much, or can she handle them fine w/o feeling like all low end power is gone. Thanks for the ideas and input.

28" tires are too much for the 500 in my opinion as you would have to run low range alot. you will most likely have to run a clutch kit even w/ the 27"

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, but I didn't want to admit it to myself. Everyday I kick myself for not getting the 800. The 500 is nice but I want the power and the ability to upgrade to bigger tires.

I did notice some power loss with 27's on my sportsman 700. My next set will be 26's, which were the stock size. I think a 1" bigger tire is only 1/2" more clearance anyway? Also mud lites are heavy compared to stock 4 ply PXT's. Even with the stock size there will be some power loss...

i beleave the pxt's are only 3 ply and i put 27" on my 800 and theres a little differnce between them and the stock 26" pxt's and gained at least 1" more cleanance w/ alot better traction.

I switched to 26" mudlite XTR's which are about 1 to 1 1/2" taller than the stock PXT's. Ground clearance gain was about 1" and the difference in traction is a drastic increase. I also switched the stock primary spring to the orange and blue dalton spring and I really did not notice any power loss. My Pxt's that I took off did say 3 ply on the sidewall.
