Raptor 686 Gearing
#1
Ok, I just shredded my front sprocket the other day on a quick trip down the road, so I thought while I was at it I would get a Tag sprocket and chain set. Now I have a ton of mods and plenty of power, and its always felt pretty good, cause I do alot of trail riding, but my buddy thinks I should drop a tooth or two in the rear. I don't want to completely go up one in the front, so thats why I was thinking like down 2 in the back. I just feel like I top each gear out just a little to quickly. But I don't want to sacrifice to much bottom because I know Raptors have long first and second gears. What do you guys think? Any experience out there or suggestions?

I have pretty much the same setup as you. I have a Craycraft 686 with a 11:1 piston, stage two cam, gytr neadles, gytr pipe and silencer, but i do alot of sand riding and i went up in the back two teeth for some more bottom end. when i drag race i still do not get fifth gear into the high rpms. And it does seem like i have to shift alot until fourth gear. also i run 20" tall tires. if you have 22" tires you will have more top end than if you run 20" tires. the smaller the tire the less top end b/c it does not mushroom out as much. you should run the gearing you are comfortable with. Don't be afraid to buy an extra sprocket off of ebay or barrow one from a friend to try out. That is what i did until i found what i liked. Hope this helps you.

In the banshee world the more power you have the longer you want your gears to last for less shifting. Im going ot be gearing up a tooth in the front from stock. I was at 14/41 stock, switched to 13/41 untill I get some mods. Once I get the mods attached ill be going to 15/41. Taller gears (with power) will make you have to shift less and therefore make you faster, esspecially in the trails and with the low-end grunt of a 660.
