Default questions about my 07 rancher

The 2007 Honda Rancher is by far the best bang for your buck out there, in the atv market. i have 80 miles on mine now.
I heard someone say something about the 20 hour valve adjustment?
considering i have never bought a new atv before what all should i be doing to it?
other than riding of course lol

Of all the things you do, that initial valve adjustment is VERY important! As the valve train wears in, they will most likely go out of spec. Initial adjustment at 20 hours, then check them at every 100 hours after that.

You need to do an oil and oil filter change as well...if you have not done one already. Stick with a pertoleum oil like Honda GN4 during break in. I do an oil change at 1 hr, 5 hrs, and 10 hrs. This is to insure that you get any metal fileings out of the engine that may be left over from machining. After break in, I switch to Maxima Extra ester synthetic oil.

Also, good idea to change out the oil in the rear and front drive gear cases...again for the same reason!

And keep your air filter serviced regularly!

if you do like to mud you will have to relocate the radiator to the front racks. the radiator cant do its job when its clogged up with mud.

I love mine too. . .

Is there a write up somewhere about how to do the adjustment on the valves? also what would it cost to have done at my dealer?

In the Service Manual under Maintenance/Valve Clearance; pages 4-11 & 4-12.

The manual is well worth the investment.

See more on this topic in the thread Honda 420 Valve Adjustment .

Default questions about my 07 rancher

I just bought an 07 rancher I have done the valve adjustment at about 15 hrs with the help of my brother who knows how to do it. It is not that bad the service manual is a must. I also changed the oil and filter. I have also cleaned the the air filter.

Excel motorsports in concord NC quoted me $200 to do the initial maintenance(including valve adjustment and some other things)

Mike
