Default Spark Plug Question, Why Champion????

Hello,

Just posted about my air box and now I am on to another question that correlates. My 01 Blaster has a Toomey B1 kit, V-Force reeds, and an open air box. At this point it runs great but wondering why when I bought it last month there was a Champion spark plug in there. I switched it for a BR8ES which the manual calls for but now wondering due to the aftermarket parts there would be a reason for this?? I am assuming the Jetting has been changed to accomidate these parts as when I put the air box cover on it, it ran like crap. So again just curiouse why the Champion plug would be used, wish I would have kept it as I don't know what the model number was. Any insight on this would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Chad

Default Spark Plug Question, Why Champion????

There is always a cross reference between plug brands/models. So for every NGK there is a champion version.. same for the other way around. For me, I always use NGK or Denso plugs. What you would need to know is if they had some reason to run a hotter or colder plug from stock. If the motor has sat over night (cold) and runs bad right when you start it, it's not the heat range of the plug. The heat range only comes into play once the motor is warmed up. Too cold of a plug will carbon up and too hot of a plug will act like a glow plug and cause miss firing/pinging. Leave the airbox lid on and start the motor up and try to keep it running for a min or two.. pull the plug and see if it looks soaked with fuel/oil. I bet it will be soaked. Try the same thing with the air box lid off. This is not a true plug color check but it will give you a general idea.

Default Spark Plug Question, Why Champion????

Thanks RRUSER,

I will try that tonight to see what I come up with. My Blaster as the Toomey B1 kit plus the v-force reeds and I assume different jetting to accomidate this plus the open air box. Would a plug other then the reccomended one really make a huge diffenence in this. Am going riding this weekend as I haven't really had it out much yet but since it has a Champion plug in there which I wish I would have kept. Any others with these mods on an other wise stock Blaster use different plugs? Thanks.

Default Spark Plug Question, Why Champion????

Thanks Rruser,

I will have to try that tonight but with my Blaster just having the Toomey B1 Kit, reeds and possible different jetting to accomidate an open air box would these mods really have that much effect on the plug?? Any one else with these mods run the normal NGK. Is there a recomended Champion Plug I could buy just in case? Thanks so much.

Champion was started by Allan Champion. Who later had the business stolen from him. So he went off to start AC.
