Default Newby Scrammy 400 - Help

Hi!
I am new to the forum, and new to atvs.

My wife just bought me a 2000 Scrammy 400 2x4, and I have a few questions for the Scrambler gurus.

1. Handlebars - what size are they? Mine are bent, don't have a cross bar, and I don't really like the sweep that they have
2. Grips - same question - what size, the grips I have are the worst. One day of riding and my hands kill
3. Tires - I have 22-11-10 Titan 489s on the back that are shot. I want to replace them, but my fronts which are decent still (23-7-10 I think). What size should I go with? Are these the sizes that should be on there? Any recommendations for riding dirt tracks and Minnesota trails?
4. Wheel Bushings - I think the bushings in my front wheels are shot - is this common? It feels like I have side to side play in the front wheels (I also have some steering stem play)

Sorry about the long first post, and thanks in advance for any help!

Nothing guys? Did the fact that "my wife bought me" scare you guys off?
We actually sold her street bike to get her one, and she "bought me one" with the leftover cash.

Anyhow, I assume the stock bars are 7/8", can anyone confirm this?

And all I really want to know is about tire size right now. I am pretty clueless on this. I assume you want 1" taller front tires to keep the handling characteristics the same

Hi There
I am not sure about the size of your bars, your dealer should be able to tell you this. As for grips any set of grips will work for you. I like to put some gas on the inside of the grips before I put them on, it makes it a little easier.

You play in your handlebars is coming from worn out tie rod ends and steering stem bushing. I would replace them. Scrambelers eat through steering stem bushings, expect to replace it every year. It is a very easy fix.

Thanks...I got some new bars and grips this weekend.

As for the steering...I actually have quite a bit of up and down play, which I think is the stem bushing. I assume the RCR Steering Post Bearing would be a good replacement?

But my tie rod ends I think are good...maybe I'll do the steering post bearing and see what happens. I did see the "A" frame bushings on RCR too. They are cheap at $6, maybe they are worth a shot.

Thanks again!

I just picked up a 400 Sport. I got some new steering shaft bushings today. There's a lower bushing and an upper bushing (which is in two halves).

Did you get them from a dealer? Are both needed? I thought usually the bottom one was the one that went bad.

Definitely stay away from the stock stem bushing. I believe the one Rick has is aluminum. If so, that will last a long while. The upper stem bushing is only offered in plastic, I think.

Check the length of the grips. You might have to move the switched and and throttle housings just a bit.
