Clutch Kits (Sportsmans)
#1
Okay you'all,
I have seen alot of posts of those who like to mod
their Quads by upgrading their clutch systems. Alot
of HeelClicker fans to boot, but I have some questions.
1) What is the overall after market clutch kit
used on these Sportsman's that have the most
proven reliability?
2) What will give me more power to allow me
to roll better in the MUD/Water with bigger tires
(26" or at the most 27")?
Of course top speed is nice to have but wouldn't
be my first choice for mod'in. All opinions, suggestions,
tips welcome!

Hey after check out the site, would I need the whole clutch
kit or could I get away with just changing out the spring?
I know the 450, 500 and 700 non-efi/EBS are group together
in repair manual etc. could I use a 500 spring or such you think?

Depending on the results that you want you can custom build a clutch kit with patientnce and a little time and a few $$$$
I can help but you will need to let me know what weights are in a 450.To start with lighten up the secondary setting. Then
go with a Polaris white primary spring. If this doesnt get the trick done you can lighten up the weights by a gram or so or even go
to a differant grind.

thats an expenssive way of doing it for sure by buying differnt springs and weights to see if the progress is right. you could just put a higher engagment spring in the prim and change the setting in the sec. and would pull totally differnt but when you gain in one area, you loose in another. im sure some will say im nuts(maybe be right) but this is what i found w/ my 450. to be honest, i think what you are looking for is going to be in another bigger bike. but this is just my guess after talking to you for awhile.

Any recommendations for an '03 700?
Would changing out the white spring help out, or am I better off trying to track down a Healclicker?
Are either options someone can do themselves with not alot of hassle?

Man, things still a little buggy here
on this forum, I lost my message
last night?
Anyways you are right Stendori,
no substitution for cc's. But would
like the knowledge in case I am
stuck with my 450 a little while longer
OR just for my wifes so I choose to
juice hers up a little. Checked out
Dalton, and would like more info. from
their reps like you said no 450 (2006)
listed, sub'ng for 400 or can I do
non-ebs 500?
After googling I came across EPI,
they claim alot on their products
etc. Anyone running those?

i think epi is alot like dalton set up(just a guess) and you can use the 500 set up i beleave. you do have to use the 500 set up on the heel clicker so it would stand to reason. just adding a higher engagement spring i dont think will help your power out just a differnt eng. rmp. clutch kits on 4 strokes really redefine the power curve and doesnt really add any hp in my opinion. but a difernt exhaust. filter, and bigger mains will give some more hp. its just a question as howmuch power you gain for the pricey up grade. good luck.
