Default Lock and ride windshield no more BEWARE!!

Trailered my Sportsman home today. It's a 10 mile trip away being stored at my brothers house. I recently moved and needed to store it for a few months. I've always trailered it facing forward, but just bought a new trailer that side loads them. The most I went was 60 mph, but by the time I got home, the windshield tore off the entire left side from about the support plate in the middle over. A third of it is now gone. I could have swore these we're trailerable, but maybe they meant forward facing like mine was in the past. It kinda sucks because I doubt that they will honor it as I lost the piece on the road somewhere. My wifes John Deere windshield held up just fine though Brian

to me its no differnt then having a sled turned backwards and the wind ripps it right off because their designed to have wind pushing agaist them and not from the back. thats too bad to have to loose it though.

I figured with the wind hitting it from the side, there's not alot of wind resistance there. I guess I was wrong. The piece broke off completely. A nice clean break. I just think Polaris needs to do their homework and maybe use a little thicker plastic as the JD shield held up just fine. Towing it backwards I would expect it to tear off since the way it's angled, it would act as a parachute or kite. Next time they will be coming off before towing. I just got off the phone with my dealer and they said bring the shield in and they will see what they can do. Brian

Have two Sportsman with the same windshield. Have towed them sideways without problems. Worse case, can't just the plastic be replaced?

I'm not sure on a replacement shield only, but I should know more today when I return from the dealer. I wouldn't suggest doing it anymore or one or both of yours might end up like mine.

I suspect yours had a defect or was damaged in some way. The plastic is quite thick and have watched them in the wind, they do not vibrate or shake. Have seen them sideways on trailers on freeway.

My windshield came with a caution label that it was not to be instaled on units being trailered. I bought mine about a year ago.

Humm! Interesting. Had both of mine longer and do not remember such a warning. Most of the time, mine are in an enclosed trailer so that is a no issue.
