Cam selection help for '07 350 Raptor
#1
Hello all,
Horsepower bug and need for speed is eating me up. I have a couple month old Raptor 350 that I took over and it needs help quenching my thirst for speed/power. It has an HMF pipe and K&N filter. The jetting is pretty good according to the plug. I just ordered a Wiseco 10.25 standard piston kit and now need a good, reliable cam for it. I'll rub on the head a little bit but the valves, intake and carb will stay stock for now. Thought about busting it open and stroking it but the bike is barely broken in and I have too many other projects going right now. ('69 Chevelle, '68 Camaro) I'm no newbie to quads but it has been awhile. My last bike was a '87 TRX 250R in better than mint condition with three engines. One built stock for riding, one built for the dunes, and one for flat out hauling a**. I also built the stroked 385cid w/NOS Chevy for my Chevelle and I'm working on a 725+hp pump gas Procharged stroker 420cid small block Chevy for my Camaro.
I was thinking going with a Hotcams Stage II but after researching I just don't think it has the "umph" I'm looking for. I need a cam that will match:
HMF Pipe
K&N Air Filter
10.25:1 CR
Work with stock rockers and valvetrain except springs
Continuous hard riding on various terrain
Bleed off enough cylinder pressure down low to run 91-93 Octane pump gas
Keep my 400EX riding friends from smoking me in a drag race
Any recommendations and feedback will be appreciated. Thanks

Webcams are pretty good but the .390 cam did pretty much nothing for a friends '99 Warrior with a head pipe and header and K&N jet/filter kit.
What about Powroll cams? They have a .430 "Midrange" cam and a .430 "Race" cam. I need a cam that will not tear up the valvetrain and will last a couple years but still add a good amount of power to the bike.

Powroll just uses other manufactures and calls them there own. There race cam is designed just for them though Web.
Hotcams suck as they are very mild camshafts.
I have a .390" cam and I find it works great for woods and fast trails. I personally wouldn't want anything bigger for that type of riding. For me this cam added a huge hit in the mid range.
I would have to say would type of riding are you doing and where are you riding in the rpm range most of the time? That's how I'd go about picking a cam. Megacycle also make great cams as well.
You can get away running the stock cam if you wanted with that piston and 92 octane gas.

I think I'm going with the original plan and stick a Stage II Hotcam in it. Easy on parts, get to keep my cam, and simple to "drop-in". Just have to make sure to find the right one for a Raptor. If it gives me a couple MPH, it'll do.

Good luck with all of that! They screwed a lot of raptor owners over thinking the two cams between the warrior and raptor are the same. Left people out to dry and with the cost of complete top end engine rebuiling. On top of that there one of the worst performing cams for are bikes.

OK, not doing the hotcams thing. Going with the Powroll .430 Midrange cam. I Ebayed a Warrior cylinder for $15.00 and will be doing the 365cc Big Bore kit a little later also. I'll be running it with the std bore 10.25:1 Wiseco piston for now though until I get the big bore kit. I do a lot of top end long stretch riding so it may be alright.

I have just about the same setup as you. I chose to go with the web .430 cam. Great perfomance upgrade with the piston. Thankgod you didnt get a hotcam! lol Tellme how the powroll "midrange" cam works out for you.

Hot cams are for wimps! Thank God you're not going that route! I have had good experience with the Webcam. I know it sucks have to turn in your old cam, but its junk anyway. The 366 kit with a .430, a pipe, filter and jet kit will really wake up that 350. A good port job and some larger valves help a lot, too. I have the stroker in mine and its fast, but to be honest, it wasnt worth all the trouble, time & $$$.

You dont think it was worth all the time really? You got a warptor beating LTZ440's, whats not to like about that? I was going to save up for one of those and get a port job and give my friends a whoopin.
