Artic Cat 90 performance ???????
#1
I just purchased an Artic Cat 90 and have a few questions. First off, the bike will barely carry my 125 lb butt around. I pulled the clutch cover off and looked at everything. The primary clutch plate moves very easily together ( as if it were squeezing the belt) with the belt removed. The secondary has great resistance pulling the plates apart (just like on a snowmobile). Secondar clutch is nice smooth movement doing this so i think the problem is with the primary. Has anyone had any problems with this or is that how it's supposed to be? I know on a snowmobile primary there is tension pulling the plates apart when there is no belt.
Also, I'm looking to get lots more performance so my kids don't get bored with this bike. I'm already looking to remove the restrictor in the carb and doing the exhaust with re-jetting to a 82.5 main. Is there anything else I should be looking to purchase or modify to help with my performance?????

Porting, head redone, carb, clutching mods removing the wedding ring looking restrictor in the front variator. The front clutch/variator sounds right thats the way they are supposed to be it's different than a snomo.

I feel better about the clutch then. I'll pull the ring off the primary. Also I pulled the limiter off the slide. I didn't find any restrictors in the intake between carb and reeds. How bout an after market air filter? I'd like to remove the stock air box and pipe. I have a 77.5 main jet do I need to go bigger for the exhaust restrictor?

Do the end cap mod take out the smaller pipe from the middle of the endcap and if it's got a 77.5 go to a 82.5 and it will haul your big butt around. You'll then want a 35 tooth rear sprocket and a new chain it'll run 35 mph then. Honestly I'd replace the front variator with a stock polaris, kasea or eton that one is designed a little differently and is not right. For under $50 it would be fixed. Boyesen reeds and milling the head .060 helps them out or just get a good designed head for $50 to 100. It'll start much easier with the head done and a new 20mm keihin carb ($100 or less) + cable. they start very easy then. The cats dont like to start very good stock.

Thanks, I did all the previous mods today. They helped alot, my daughter is much happier. It runs my butt around alot better now too. I'll look into the other mods also. Thanks for all the great info.
