Sportsman 700 or 800 (EFI), your preference?

I am doing my own research to see what would
work better for me. If I trade in or sell my SP 450.
I'm not a speed or power NUT and see the 700 and
800 pretty close in comparisons, obviously you have
almost a hundred cc's more power BUT at 700 or 683cc's
thats alot (my opinion).
1) Any known issues with the 700's outside of
some heat issues (pipe) like experienced with the 800's?
(w/these Bigger machines)
2) Can you get the ADC or other features in this 700 model
offered like in the 800?
3) Any disgruntled 700 owners?
I appreciate and respect all opinions, God Bless!

Sometimes too much power is worse than not enough. Seen it quite a bit. Probably, some of it is driver error. Human nature being that is, when the going gets tough we have a tendency to give it more gas when in a lot of situations backing off the gas would be better. (Like trying to take off on ice - delicate throttle control).
Other consideration would be with the price of gas these days - gas mileage may be a concern.
The 700 and 800 should be close in performance but obviously the 800 is more - just how much more and is it going to be useful for you.
That being said - which one is the better buy - is the cc's worth the extra bucks.
Reliability is always a concern, which one is showing the best track record.
Which one suits your riding style the most and has the features that you just can't live without. For example my ride doesn't have a front locker - but it is something that I can live without - if I had one I may get bennefit 5-8 times a year. If I had to pay extra, I would pass on it and opt to spend the money on a winch that I could get more use out of, not only getting unstuck but clearing crap out of the way on the trail, pulling stumps on my land etc. etc....

A lot may depend on how your local dealer is pricing these two quads. If they are near in price, you should probably go with the 800. I think if you research carefully, the 800, being Polaris' premier atv, has a few subtle features over the 700. I believe the 800 would resale much better also.

I had an 05 700 & had trouble with the front differental not locking up only had 2 wheel drive, I took it in for repair & was given a 800 demo to have until my bike was fixed, I kept the 800. Both are 05's, only had the 700 6 months & the 800 nearly 2 years. The 800 is a nicer driving bike does have more power. I have had no problems other than a broken header pipe with the 800 & it has nearly 3000 miles on it. Both bikes are great in mud and close in top end speed I just like the 800 better.

Every thing should be the same in every department except the power and price. The 800sp puts out 54.8hp at the crank and the 700 puts out about 48hp at the crank. The 700 has a lot of power and will do anything you want. The 800sp is the 3rd fastest utility quad made right behind the kawie bf750 and the can-am 800.
It really comes down to the price difference which will vary depending on dealer. If the 800 is going to cost more than say $800, get the 700sp. If the price is say only $300 or so, get the 800. As far as ride and handling, they both will be the same and very very comfortable stable ride and easy to steer.
After getting my 2007 sportsman 800efi X2 DLX, I wouldn't trade it for anything. I still have my nice powerful 2005 bf750 with all its mods and it is mostly for racing, mudding and just flat out power fun, but the 800 X2 is my work horse and cadaliac trail machine. The dump bed and store away extra seat is awesome. Anyway, good luck on chosing and let us know what you decide.

Also, have you ridden the 2007 sportsman 500efi? It has very good power and the efi makes it have crisp response. I understand there is a noticable power difference between the 500efi and the 450 carb. Just a thought.

Yea, my buddy has the new 07 500 efi, and
yes you are right its noticable difference!
Buuttt, I can't see trading in my 450 for only
50 more cc's. I think if I am to do this I will
upgrade to the 700 or 800. Just my hang up?

Hey Bud, I think it is more like
she is tired of hearing me talk
about it, complain etc. etc. "IF
that is what will finally make you
happy..."
I was quoted $6800 (07' 700 EFI)
at dealers cost from my dealer. Does
this seem like a good price? They won't
have the new 08' in until August, I think
I may wait over a month to see what
the 800 may sell for.
