450r vs. raptor 700 r
#1
Hi, I'm planning on getting a new atv soon. my first choice is a 2008 trx450r. My second choice is a Raptor 700r. which is faster ? and what is the better choice ? Also I'm having doubts about the raptor as it's a 700 and I don't think I can handle that kind of power. I've ridden 450r's alot and I love 'em

Specifially what type of terrain will you be riding???? What is your riding style???? This is the most important thing we need to know!
The Raptor is all torque. Lots of torquey power off the bottom and in the middle, but it falls a little flat at high RPM....where the 450's are just getting into the meat of their powerbands....
Personally, I don't like the ergonomics of the Raptor. It is a little narrow and carries its weight up high. I wouldn't call it tippsy, but if I had one I would have to widen it for any high speed riding. The engine will lug down however, which makes it a better choice than the 450's for tight trail riding. The 450's on the other hand are all rev, and to ride them slowly on a tight trail requires a lot of annoying clutch work.
You have ridden the 450R, so not much I can tell you there. I love mine, but I ride it fast and almost exclusively in the open desert. If I am headed for a ride that is mostly tight trails, I take the 400EX and leave the 450R in the garage. If it is a highly technical ride, I take the Rancher.

I disagree with hammertyme. 450 on a trail is bad. They are high geared and high rev. Trails on a 450 are no fun and too much work. The 700 is high geared but don't need to be reved to put out the power. Also the 700 not as fast as one thinks? I have experince with a 700 with LRD full exhaust and a powercommander. Nothing around can touch it. It repeatedly smokes a trx450R with full yoshi and cam.
If you have any plans on getting into racing the 450 is typically the quad people use.

Ok, but there are lots of different kinds of "racing". MX, desert, GNCC, etc., so specifically what kind of racing????
I wouldn't want to be on the 700 for any kind of MX. There I would pick one of the 450s.
