Blaster For Trail Riding
#1
I have a line on a '95 Blaster for $1500CDN obo w/ some parts.
I'm just wondering if the Blaster is a decent trail machine? I'd really only be looking to ride trails to the pits where I'm sure the Blaster would be fine .. but just want to know I guess how they would compare to my old Warrior? I'm not a big guy so the smaller Blaster won't be too small for me. I'm only 5'8 and on my way down to 155lbs (was 180 in January )
Anyway .. pros / cons etc would be appreciated. I'm really just aching for something with a clutch and a little bit of gumption.
Also have a line on a 2000 400EX for 2700, and a 2003 300EX for 3000. Thing I don't like about the 300EX is it has a cobra exhaust (deafening), and the price is more than I want to pay for something like that.

Thing is up here, there are no published "book" values for quads and such. While $1500 may not be a steal of a deal, it's pretty much going rate. I'm still just thinking on it really. I'd almost like to get the new *gasp, choke* Raptor 250 since it has the trailability of a four stroke and it's nice and light.
To give you an indicator of the price of things up here: A 1984 Big Red goes for around 2000 - 2400 depending on condition. It's insane, but there you are. Plus, a Blaster new used to retail for around $5000 CDN (not sure what the new blaster retails at). What are/were they in the US .. 3k maybe? Heck a Raptor 50 is 2500 +
I'll probably have a look at it since it meets two criteria of mine: cheap, manual clutch. Is the 95 blaster a premixer or does it use oil injection? If pre-mix, what ratio do people use (assuming stock)?
Thanks for the replies.

The Blaster will be to small for you! At first, you will have fun because it will handle like a toy, but later you will realize how cramped you are.
Blasters have injectors (I think they always did ?????), but lots of folks take them off, so that is something you will always want to ask about......

Hey RR. Thanks for the input. I don't think the cramped up bit won't bother me too much as it will be an occasional ride when I want to rip about. For comfort and longer rides I have my mini-jeep sportsman. However, if/when I go to see this bike I'll have a good long sit on it and be sure that it measures up. Looking at pics on the net it does look very cramped up, but again, for the amount of use I'll put it through .. I might do. I'm still completely undecided on everything .. trail bike, quad, trail bike .. bah. Maybe I'll get a sea doo

My first quad was a Blaster. I had not ridden one in many years, but my buddies kid has one and I jumped on it the other day. I had forgotten how much fun these little things can be! Still, I wouldn't want to do a cross country ride on one.
Now that my kids are older, I wish I had kept the Blaster and 300EX for them.....

Don't worry about the year on ATVs, I bought a low milage 2001 SP500 and tuned down 2005 models because they had more miles on them.
