Bayou 185 stalling at top speed - A plea for help
#1
I am really hoping that someone can point me in the right direction. We have a Kawasaki Bayou 185 that is probably about 20 years old and it has run great for years. Now I am running into a problem and really need some advice.
When driving the ATV at top speed for about a half of a mile, the ATV will stall out. It sounds as though it has run out of gas. I can sometimes stop it from stalling by letting off the gas and then rocking the throttle back and forth. Once it stalls I can hop off and use the pull starter and it starts right up again and off I go. A half mile later I have stalled again. It does not do this when I go slowly down trails.
We have tried a few things to get this problem fixed with no results:
1. Cleaned out the carb (there was some junk in it)
2. Drained out the old gas and put new in (old stuff was a bit stale)
3. Blew out the fuel filter (gas is passing easily through it)
Now I am getting desperate.........
Can anyone give me some guidance?
Is there a fuel pump that could be bad?
My battery is dead (thus the pull starting) could this be the answer?
Any other ideas?
Thank you to anyone who answers my plea for help.

I know you cleaned your carb, make sure your floats arent sticking. Sounds to me like you are using up all your gas at full throttle and the carb cant keep up with the flow. Also check and make sure nothing is wrong with your petcock, there might be something stuck in there too. Also in your gas tank. Maybe try running it on reserve to check that
