Default temp. warning light

whats up? I got a 2001 scrambler 500 and the temp light has been coming on when I ride slow for a 20 to 30 min. spand. It just started doing since it has been in the high 90's.I checked my coolant level and it was fine.Is this normal or what.

So are you saying it can affect it or are you not sure?Is it like a car and it means that the head gasket might blow or does it just let me know it is hot and thats it?I just want to know if it will hurt it to ride it or not. Thanks for the info.

It will kill your ride if you don't stop within a quick enough time. A hot engine can result in warped heads resulting in a blown head gasket. Could do lots of damage depending on how hot it gets.

if you ride it hot then then it overheats it and will blow the antifreeze out the res. tank and then bad things will happen. check the rad. as mentioned to see if its partialy blocked w/ mud on both front and back. if so, clean it throughly so you can see right thru it. like mentioned as well, is the fan running, if not then theres your problem.

Yes the fan is running. So I checked the rad. and found some mud and I guess that is the problem.I will just ride when I get a chance to see if it worked.I was just wondering if it maybe come on because it was hot outside or if it was a problem.I live in North Carolina and it gets really dry hot around here.Anyway thanks for the info. guys.

yea mud is usually the culpit of the overheating issues. dont keep riding it if the light comes on until you throughly fix the heat issue or it will blow a gasket or warp the head. just a suggestion.

No, for the record I would cut the bike off and let the fan run until the light went off.I am a 7 year GM tech. with a enough common sense not to ride if the temp light is on.I am new to the polaris world I've been riding two stroke yamaha's for a long time, just not sure what the light ment.Like I said guy's thanks for the info cause it fixed the problem because my wife and I rode with about 20 quads for about 40 miles last night.WE had a ball. Thanks for the help. Don't for get the golden rule" talk to others like you want to be talk to"
