I have an '07 mongoose 50. I have removed the restrictor on the front pulley and was wondering if anybody knows of any other means of gaining some top end. They did away witht the green looped wire on the cdi. I love the quad just wish i had some more top end. Anyone ??????????

 

No green wire to cut, eh? Too bad - does it seem to bog out at the top end, like there is an rpm restrictor in the CID? (I have that problem with my '06 AC DVX 50 which is also built by Kymco.)

 

Your 06 is a 2 stroke. You should have the green looped wire. No its not bogging down, its hitting the limit and just wont go any faster. I wish I could find another 5-10 mph ????

 

Actually, '06 was the first year for the 4-stroke.

When I removed the variator restrictor (like you did), top end went from 9 mph to 14 mph. Then we put bigger tires on the rear (22" mudlites) and now it goes about 19 mph. However, you will likely have to get new rims for the tires - any 4-110 rim will do - and then put wheel spacers on to compensate for the heightened center of gravity.

As to the front tires, you can get an inexpensive 20" or so, and just fill it up a bit more to get more diameter. That's what we did and now the bike is just great. And don't worry about losing power at the low end - the Kymco 50's seem to have gobs of it.

Meanwhile, I am searching for an aftermarket CDI with no rev limiter on it - will post if I find one.

 

Thanks for the reply. So the tires gave you 5 mph more? Thats exactly what I am looking for. My 6 yo daughter loves this Kymco. Like you, we are moving up from a Kazuma 50. Do you think I could gain 5 mph by going up to 18" tire in the rear. I can get the Maxxis ( stock on kymco 90 ). If you find any info on the CDI, please let me know. Wonder if the Kymco 90 CDI will have any gains ? Thanks

 

Definitely get the mudlites (Maxxis do not have enough traction) - and go with 22", plus the 2 5/8" wheel spacers. You will be amazed at the mudholes those tires will take her through, and safely with the wheel spacers. (But be prepared for her to get muddy!

No, the 90 CDI won't work - I checked. Somewhere out there, however, is the CDI we want.

Yes, but if you are worried about it, take a wheel from your quad with you to the store when you get the new ones.

 

i have a kymco 90 and was wondering if it is hard to replace the boss restrictor? also should i remove it all together?
