Default Need help fast! I screwed up bigtime...

I attempted to put a Dynojet kit into my 2006 Brute Force 750. I got everything in but when I got to adjusting the pilot air screws they had caps over them and I didn't know how to get them off. My buddy came over and said you have to drill them out so he drilled all the way down and took most of the head off the screw. He then used a chisel and put a notch in the screw to turn it out. By hitting the screw with the chisel he destroyed the threads and they are all stripped out on one of the carbs now.

I am assuming I need a new carb. Are they available in the aftermarket somewhere? Dealer only? Does the dealer even carry them yet? Can this on be repaired somehow? I am supposed to go on a big riding trip in two days and need help fast! Thanks in advance guys!!!

Scott

Sounds like you have a good buddy. He might want to pitch in and help with the replacement cost sinc it was his idea and his doing. You probably do need a new carb and I know my local dealer carries them.

Just some ideas that you may have thought of...Do they use the same throttle bodies that the Prairie 650s/700s use? Maybe you can go to www.buykawasaki.com to see if the throttle bodies are the same. You might then find one on ebay and have the guy overnight it. If it works out it would probably be less expensive than buying a carb or body from Kawasaki. I don't know if there are many BForce carbs on ebay yet.

I don't know if you can get a helicoil the size of the screw??? It wouldn't be cheap for the kit.

If it was me and I wanted to ride it in a couple of days, I'd probably CAREFULLY JB weld the thread area staying away from the seat area. Once it was dry, I'd carefully hand drill (no electric drill)the thread area out until the pilot screw could be "threaded" into the new hole. You are going to have to be super careful to get the new hole centered so the needle will seat accordingly. It doesn't have to be perfectly seated...just good enought to be able to be adjusted. I would never leave it this way, but you might be able to get by for the weekend while your new carb or body is on the way.

Just had another idea...is there enough thread to hold the screw lightly? If you could screw it all the way in and then back out 2 turns (or whatever the spec is???), perhaps you could put some loctite sleeve retainer on the threads of the pilot screw...screw it all the way in and then back out the 2 turns needed??? You could probably get it back out with a propane torch applied LIGHTLY to the body.

Those are good ideas... Unfortunatly there aren't enough threads left to use the loctite. I'm going to call all the dealers in my area tomorrow and pray someone has one in stock or can get it next day...

The prairie carbs wont work. You may want to try Ronayers.com they are more than likely cheaper than your dealer. You may be able to rig it one way or another but just think if your riding and it falls out. You'll suck in all kinds of crap. That whole deal sucks good luck man. I hope he's a good friend. LOL

Like FastFB said, the Prairie carbs are much different than the BF750 carbs (different size and design). Ronayers.com and Mrcycle.com are probably much cheaper than the dealership, but unfortunately they also take a lot longer. I never use the dealership for parts unless I need them in a big hurry and am willing to pay more for the same parts.

PS - You might be able to find someone on ebay that is parting out an entire BF750 or BF650i and then you can ask to buy the carbs...I've seen folks parting out a BF750 on other atv forums.

Good luck with the repair and happy trails...
