Opinion on the KFX 700
#1
I've been riding crotchrockets for about 5 years and I'm about to sell my current bike and buy a quad. I grew up riding dirtbikes and quads. I'm not a big fan of mud riding, i like hitting trails, dirt roads, doin wheelies, jumps, donuts, things like this better. I will be riding with some people that ride the big 4x4's, so i was thinking that I should go with the Kawasaki KFX700. I know the raptor and 450's will beat this bike in a race and i'm not concerned with that. I like the idea of it being an automatic, for trail purposes and riding with slower 4 wheelers. Will this quad do a wheelie easily... What does everyone think of this machine????

Not really a sport quad. Needlessly huge and heavy, unless you are a huge and heavy guy who absolutely can't fit on anything smaller and lighter. Sport quads are getting lighter all the time...350 pounds is now the norm. At over 500 pounds the KFX weights 150 pound more than that. You want to be out there on the trail with 150 pounds of dead weight iron as a handicap????
For wheelies, jumps, doughnuts....you will have way more fun on almost anything that is smaller and lighter.....
If you need a machine that will lug down and can be ridden slowly on a technical trail, that would be the Honda 400EX or Yamaha Raptor 700. Both have a manual clutch, like a real sport quad should!

I agree with recon....
The KFX700 is a tank.... it's great for cruising the trails, or riding aggressive open roads .... but for tight woods, or jumping, or anything like that you want something more sporty... I Raptor 700 would be nice, they are fast and have reasonable maintenance, or a z400 or 400ex if you don't need a bigger engine ....
The 450s would work too, but they made for racing, and are so maintenance intensive a lot of people end up selling them for more of an all-around machine..
The KFX700 seems to appeal to a specific core group of riders..... my Father loves his, but he's been a Polaris guy his whole life and hates shifting, and does not mind muscling around the big hulk...... I ride his for a couple laps, then jump back on my z400 and it feels like a feather.... I launch it off the same jumps with total confidence, pitched to the side, having fun.... I love my z400 for any kind of jumping, I can land it anywhere and any angle..... My Father's KFX lands wherever the heck it wants, and the suspension is not as good as my z400 ....
Right now if I had to buy another quad, it would be another z400, or maybe a SE Raptor 700....
