How To Remove Axle on TRX300FW?! Got It Done!
#1
Im working on my 94 TRX300FW, and have the rear end out. I need to do all of the rear bearings, but am having a hard time geting the axle nuts loose. Are these left hand thread? Or one on one side right and the other left? Whats the preffered (easyest) way to get these suckers loose!
Update: I got the brake side loose with heat and pentrating oil. It IS right hand. Still no luck on the differential side. Now Im at the brake drum, and it looks like a seal. Is there any clips or anything holding the drum on?
Ok, now I have everything off accept for the brake drum, and two frozen inner bearing races. The red loctite they used required quite a bit of heat to remove, then the axle nuts came off. Both sides were right hand threaded.
Any tricks for removing the brake drum other than heating & beating?

Did you remove the rubber oring that is inside the brake drum close to the axle you kinda have to pick it out with a small screwdriver, other than that beat away, Tap on the drum as you turn the axle.

Yes I did, I picked it out, and can see the splines. I've been heating and putting penetrating oil on it. It will come, but I've already smushed the cotter pin holes on the end of the axle!

I had a similar problem on a 300ex. IN the end I used a dremmel to slice the bolt. Then I wedged it open with a wood chisel. After spending hours working on the bolt with oil, heat, 4'crow bars, it only took me 10 minutes to cut through the bolt and pry it open. Obviously I know need a new nut ($6), but I was going to damage something else if I kept prying on it.
Keep in mind the treads are probably backwards.
