Default Ball Joints on 2004 Sportsman

Has anyone ever tackled replacing the ball joints on a Sportsman? Both left and right are bad on my machine. I was wondering if it is as easy as it looks or do you have to take it to the dealer.

That is what i am doing on my sportsman. To do the ball joint replacement you have to use a specialty tool or make a tool that works.
Try this place for the tool. Polaris ball joint replacement tool

Just replaced a set on 2004.5 Sportsman 700..Drop a-arm..remove plate (two screws on each) heat strut ..use a good set of vise grips and hammer and it should slide right out..Freeze new ones and heat strut and they will slide right back in...Hope this helps..

I pushed out our 700s by pumping grese into them thru the fitting in the tower. With our 500 the grease was just pushing thru the balljoint so I slid a rubber washer over the stud of the balljoint then followed it by a stack of washers.Tightened the castle nut back on and now the balljoint was sealed so I pumped them full of grease and they pushed out.
