Default got some questions about a 700

hey guys, what's up? new here. I've just become a polaris owner. its an '03 sportsman 700 twin, the mossy oak one. just wondering how good these things are and what I should check on it. also what kinds of cheap/free mods I could do to it? its got plenty of power for right now but I know I will want more. haven't really got a chance to go over it yet but it seems to be in great shape. what did it retail for new? sorry for all the ?'s but I'd like to know all about it. only other atv I've ever riden was my pop's artic cat 400. thanks

Welcome, To start with just check the basic components, fluids and for any loose or moving parts. As far as mods go the sky is the limit. I have a 2" lift, 1"wheel spacers, front brush guard, 3000lb winch, front and rear rack extenders, the 3 light mod, 27" Mud Cat tires just to name a few mods. I hope this gives you an idea of what to look for.

I've checked the oil and water in it so far. how do I check the other fluids? I've also checked most of the bolts so far. probably won't add a lift kit as its tall enough for me right now. are spacers a good mod? I'm assuming they help with handling. what's the 3 light mod? never modded an atv before. a winch is my first add on.

On my 07 700, when the lights are on dim the 2 lights on the front would burn, when on bright only the light on the handle bars would burn. They make an aftermarket kit that allows all 3 lights to run while on bright. It is VERYeasy to install. The spacers help it to be more stabile also adds clearance for larger tires. The reason I lifted mine was to gain all the ground clearance I could because thats the key to going where no one else can go!

the lights are the same on mine. I may look into that. the spacers also. I work at a fab shop so I should be able to make up some spacers. will I need longer studs? how thick of a spacer did you use? I bought mine at a polaris dealer and they are suppose to be getting the manuel for it. how often does the oil need to be changed? should I just get the kit at polaris? the hour meter wasn't set when I got it so I'm thinking I should go ahead and change it even though it looked good.

My wheel spacers are 1" which means it spaces each side out 1" and makes the entire atv 2" wider. I got my spacers from www.superatv.com they are AWESOME people to deal with. I think I got my light mod kit off EBAY for like $5.00. As for the oil i'm not really sure, I havn't had mine long enough to change it yet.

One of the best things you can do it get a Jet Kit for this machine. I talked with several dealers/performance shops in my area & they all told me the same thing. When the 700 came out, the EPA was being very tough on emissions for 4 stroke atv's. To get the 700 to pass they leaned the machine out at idle. I don't know about your machine but mine ran better at 1/2 choke then it did at no choke. After I had the Dynojet Jet kit installed ($120), it's like a new machine. Plus it starts like a dream when it's cold out, just purrs at idle (before it would shake), and better acceleration.

I haven't had any hard start problems or idling problems. of course it isn't cold out so I will have to see how it does then. I've only had to use the choke once and that was when I test drove it and it had been sitting for a bit. I ran it out of gas pulling it off the truck when I got home so it now has fresh gas in it. do you guys ever run any kind of fuel treatment? after work today I'm getting a new fuel filter and some plugs for it. any reccomendations?

Good luck changing the left side plug. It is a B**ch. I have the Polaris service manual on PDF for this machine. If you want it or anybody else, just shoot me an email
