I have been riding for the past 8 weeks with no helmet on. I learned during this time that I am extremely allergic to dust. I have an open face helmet, but am afraid that it is not going to keep the dust out even with goggles on.

I am looking for suggestions as to what I should buy. I am leaning towards buying a street helmet with a clear visor. This would allow me to protect my head, keep bugs out of my eyes, and hopefully keep out more dust than the open face helmet. What do you guys think?

 

The goggles will make a huge difference on how dust you get in your eyes. A full face (street) helmet may help some, but dust will still get inside the helmet. As a cheap alternative, you could try putting a bandanna on your face.

Just be sure you take the helmet and bandanna off before going in to any stores. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]

 

A good set of goggle and a high quality full-face helmet will keep out most of the dust ....

A street helmet might keep out a little more, but they are a bit heavy for off-road and they are a bit hotter.....

Never thought of the dust mask. I use them all the time working around the house. Hmm...I think that instead of buying goggles and a mask and wearing 3 things (open face mask, goggles, dust mask), I'd rather sell my helmet and buy a street helmet. That way I'll always have eye and head protection and if I need to, I can wear a dust mask!

 

THIS will definately keep the dust out. And should be able to still use you open face helmet!!


OK, Seriously. When I was offroad racing I had a Simpson Voyager Sidewinder Helmet. This is what they look like now.

It came with a fitting for an air blower to keep a positive pressure in the helmet keeping dust out and your head cool.

I took a quick run around with Google, and all I can find are the filtered blowers that would mount is the car somewhere. I used to have one that had a small blower that mounted right on the fitting. It worked great, was light but I don't think they make them any more.

Check that !!! I just remembered the name, Fresh Air Systems.

12volts powers it up!
