08 Sportsman 700 EFI X2.
#1
I'm finally going to break down and buy myself an atv (instead of always borrowing my friends Grizz 660!) I've had my eye on the X2 since last year but was thinking 500 instead of the 800... mainly because of the price!! Now I see they switched to the 700 for $1100 cheaper than the 800 was last year. I know no one can review the new X2 yet but how about some feedback from other Sportsman 700 owners. Is the 700 that much more powerful than the 500? (my buddy's Grizz is the only other atv I've ever driven). Top speed... torque... handling... suspension??? Thanks in advance for all help!!! Bob

i think the biggest differnce would be on take off and low end power where you need it most w/ the extra person. i dont know about top end speed but would think it wouls be at least 5 mph faster. again this would only be a guess.

deacon, I would go with the bigger bore, if you intend to ride two-up alot. I've driven a friends 500, and my 700. there is a vast power difference. I would think that the 500 would have to work hard to pull around two adults.

I'm still undecided on still buying an 2007 800 X2 dlx, or wait to buy this new touring
Model 800. Anyone know when the local dealers will carry them?

Hahah that's good Stendori! One of my other
friends (in pursuit of the 800 models)
has been trying to convence me too, to
buy his other friends older 700 since I have
been on this 800 kick. Yea I gues what you
all have is contagious, LOL
But just look at it this way when you all finally
buy those 900 or 1000cc models (You "Power Nuts")
whether it be next year's or the two, you all will
be laughing at my small 2007/8 800, lol

Deacon, I wouldn't worry too much about power. The 500 EFI has plenty to move me (at 350 lbs.) and a 200 lb. passenger up and over everything I've tried. I've been through mud/waterholes up to the headlights, over 45 degree rock climbs, etc. It has not let me down at all. The 700 would probably give you a little more torque off the line and a few more mph, but would also drink more heavily than the 500. I get about 18-20 mpg in mixed driving. That being said, the new 800 EFI two person machine seat looks a lot more comfortable than the X2's.

If i where you, i'll go for the 700 twin, a lot more torque, and same gas millage or close to a 500...
Maybe you'll have to change the ramps for heavier one, but ask your dealer when you buy it to have the choice to do it...
I have a 2006 700 and 2200 miles and 110 hrs, worry free...
