Smoky Eton Exhaust
#1
My son has an Eton Vipor 90R that is about 4 months old. Starting it very tough. It takes a lot to get it going. Once it does, it REALLY smokes out of the exhaust. The smoke is white and very heavy. Once the quad is warm, it still smokes. Not as much, but still a lot. My other some has an Eton Vipor 70 that is about 3 years old. It does not smoke AT ALL. Can anyone tell me what is going on? Both quads have the auto oil feed so there is no pre-mixing. Please help.

the auto mix or oil pump just might be pumping to much oil. First thing it will do is plug the spark arrestor. I just took the oil tank off of my sons. I have never like oil injection. I dont think they run nearly as good as premix.
But anyway try removing the spark arrestor ride it around a bit and see if it cleans up. also make sure the airfilter is clean.
good luck

I'm assuming this is a two stroke?..The reason I ask is all new etons are 4 stroke I believe which would be a different problem...Anyway I agree its probably getting too much oil.Ours used to smoke until the muffler got hot and then it would stop...Do you have the throttle or rev limiter set pretty low on this bike?..I'm wondering if the pipe never gets very hot if its not under much load and never burns up the excess oil....I switched ours to pre mix and the bike doesn't run any different..In fact its a pain in the butt doing the pre mix as opposed to just dumping in straight gas..I guess ours was set up properly though and I did use a good quality injection oil (motul 600)...The engine did start and run much better when I switched to the synthetic oil over whatever was in the tank originally from Eton.

The rev limiter is set wide open. This is my son's second quad and he is a good rider (for a 7 year old). So the bike gets riden hard and the enhaust gets hot.
Does anyone know where the adjustment is for the amount of oil getting pumped inot the engine? I think that is where I should make the adjustment uless I pull the tank and pump out altogether.

My sons does the same thing until it warms up and then it just lightly smokes. Now, there a new issue. It has been leaking injector oil all over the floor while sitting in the garage. I have to find out what happens here like you.

On our 2004 model there is no adjustment..You could bend the bracket where the cable goes into the pump and possibly get some more slack in the cable that way..If that doesn't work pre mix may be the only other option.

I think there is some sort of issue with the injector pump/check valve/gaskets/etc with these motors. I have had a no start problem where the cylinder had oil in it after sitting for a couple of weeks. As stated above, it's leaks externly now so I have to get this problem fixed. If it's leaking, it could wind up not injecting enough oil and burn this puppy up

Hi, our 06 viper 70 smoked all the time using the dealer oil which we used for a year, which Eton recommends synthetic 2 stroke,I drained the oil tank several days ago and filled it with Aimsoil Intercepter, night and day difference, way less smoke, better starts and seems to have more pep!! Do a 50:1 premix in your gas tank, disconnect the oil injector line from the carb, start the engine and count the number of drops per minute at idle,if not mistaken it should drop 14 per minute but only at idle, thats the the only method I know uf to test the injestion system on the eton.Usually the dealer will premix your 1st tank with a 50:1 mix just in case the oil injection on the new unit is not primed,it's in the manual. If it was not primed and the gas was not premixed you could have premature ring/bore wear, same if it's run wide open for a long period during the break in period or before the rings seat. There is zero adjustment on the oil supply amount,it has a fixed orfice
