2007 Hawkeye ???
#1
I'm looking to buy a 2007 Hawkeye for my wife. My local dealer has just one left on the show room floor. He let me take out for a ride and I noticed 2 things that bothered me while riding it.
1) The front and rear brakes make a squealing noise when you come to a stop.
( dealer said the noise will go away when the brakes are broke in )
2) When you are at a stop and you give it gas to go forward or reverse I can hear
what sounds like a clanking noise coming from the motor/trans.
( dealer said it's the clutch engauging and all Hawkeyes do it )
Has anyone noticed this with there Hawkeyes? Or is the dealer just blowing smoke.
Also any ideas how to mount a flag to this quad?
Any help woud be great. Thanks

Hi Nails, it is probably true about the brakes. It should go away after using it for awhile. My Polaris quads both make a bit of a ratcheting sound when engaging the clutch pulleys. Polaris may have a mount to work with their plastic racks for the whip flag. I know one is available for the Sportsmen line at the very least. Hope this helps.

Yes, the brake noise will go away after you ride a bit. The clunking you hear is normal. I wondered about the 'clunk' when I bought my 2006. I listened to several other new Hawkeye's at the dealer and they all made the same noise. I have close to 1000 miles on mine now and have been for the most part very satisfied.
The only complaint is the OEM air filter just doesnt let enough air in causing it to miss and run rough 3/4 to Full throttle. I slapped a K&N on with an outerwear and the problem went away. I ride in fairly dusty conditions and it's nice to be able to clean the air filter when needed rather than replacing it every couple months. Best you can do with the OEM filter is clean the outer foam and blow the filter out with an air-compressor. This method only works for a while and the filter is shot. The K&N or Uni filter are only $10-15 more than the Polaris stock filter and well worth the investment considering they should last for years not months.

Thanks guys for all your help. I feel way better about this purchase now. You just took a lot of weight off my shoulders. I'm heading to the Polris dealer to buy my wife her first toy.

we have an '06 hawkeye 2x4 and its a good machine, we don;t have many miles on it yet but my only gripe is it feels a little oversprung. other than that you can't get a much better compact trail quad for the $
