From the C.A.R.B. cert sheets the 06/07 Hawkeye's are rated at 17hp, the 08 cert lists 17kw which is 22.7hp. Did the 300 get a bump in power, looks to be if that info is correct. The 400HO (455) is listed at 22kw which is 29.5hp.

Anyone heard any info on the 300 increase?

Here are the two specs 07 Hawkeye compared to 08 Sportsman 300 Excepted for the name change they seemed to be the same. Unless they did something internal like the cam or better air box breathing.

When the made the 500 Sportsman a 500H.O they just changed the carb from a 34mm to a larger 40mm carb and added a higher duration cam off of the 500 Scambler which woke the bike right up.

Yeah they don't give any engine specs so we can't tell anything yet, they could do a lot of tweaking to get more power I'm sure. The 400 should be impressive though, from their website picture I'm guessing they will have an LE with aluminum rims and radial tires so I may jump on one of those.....

I'm interested about this too. If they bumped up the HP in the 300 aircooled motor with a simple cam change, or carb change I wonder if those parts would be available for the '06-'07 models.

At this point I'm thinking it's a typo error but you would think they would check that before making it a published document. The carb is the same one they run on the 500's so that is large enough it wouldn't need changing but there are lots of internal changes that could be done to get that hp.

Problems I see now are the "preformance parts" that will become available will all be for the 400 Hawkeye/Sportsman. Us with the old plain Jane, "starter model" Hawkeye will be left out. We already are, there are no preformance parts for the Hawkeye other than the Dynojet kit.

A hotter cam would be nice, and fairly easy to install. I wonder how stout the bottom end is in the 300cc aircooled engine.

I'm sure you can when the SP500.HO came out in 2001 some people already put on the Scrambler's 40mm and cam and made there own Sportsman H.O long before Polaris offered them.
