Default What did I just buy?

A friend of mine just gave me a Yamaha Moto 4 for a $100. I said "gave", because she said her son recently put $1500 into it, blah, blah, blah.
So, anyway I have it now and want to know what it is. There are no tags, plates, badges or names on it other than the moto4 on the wheel flares. The entire thing is painted black by someone. It needs a lot of work, but I love those kind of projects. Is it worth it?

Thanks, Todd

Yep, it is probably a yamaha moto200. A very basic nice machine that if kept up with the basic maintenance will probably be running another 10 years or better.

The Moto4 250 had a low range sub tranny so it,s easy to spot.

Great quad but had no suspension so keep the tire pressure low. We had one as a kid beat the **** out of it.

On the Yamaha site they call it a Moto4 and a YFM 200.

YFM200

The Moto-4 was the first Yamaha 4-Wheel ATV. It featured a 196cc 4-stroke engine, a snorkel air intake, shaft drive, electric starter, centrifugal automatic clutch, and racks front and rear. A unique feature of this model was a practical reverse gear.
Made in 1985 it says.

Ah yes, now I remember. Dang, that was a looooooong time ago. Showing my age....LOL. I did forget about the suspension and using low pressure in the tires. I bought a 1994 yamaha timberwold 4x4 250 a couple of years ago to tinker with and just to have, but then I sold it to a friend at my church. That was a great simple quad that would go just about anywhere due to the all time 4wd. I should have kept it. Oh well.

There was an 80cc, a 200, a 225, a 250 and I think a bigger one either a 300 or 350. They were all called MOTO 4 The early 250 did not have any suspension it was set up like the 80cc but after a couple of years they did add shocks to it(I have an 89 model and it still runs great although it could use a new pipe and shocks.
