I tried my new Hot grips this weekend for the first time. Even in 20 degree weather in the middle of the night, the grips got so hot, I had to turn them on low(And I was wearing thick gloves). Hot Grips are well worth the money for cold weather riding, and they only take 20 minutes to install.

I have the ATV Grips, and they are slightly harder than stock, but not too bad.

I know the instructions say to solder the connections but I just bought some crimp connecters and quick connects. There is enough wire with the grips to do the install.

Jon,

I have the internal wire ATV model from HotGrips. They are larger around then the regular Hotgrips and are fairly stiff. Another down side is the installation is a little tough as you have to run the wires through the handlebars.

The only advantage is if you ride in a lot of brush like I do, you have less chance to pull the wire out. Other than that I think I would prefer the standard model.

I do recommend the variable controller, that works fantastic. You control the exact amount of heat you want, with the HI/LO switch there either to cold or to hot.

Just my thoughts.

I've got the new Polaris heated grips. The heat element is enclosed in a thick sticker you wrap onto your handle bars.Leaving the grip choice up to your personal preferance. They are cheaper than hot grips and really kick out the heat. I rode at 15 below zero last week with them they work great and are under thirty bucks! If you use compressed air to remove-install your grips they wont slip off or twist around. Your grips will be as tight as factory equipment without any glue. The variable heat setting would be nice, these come with the high low setup. A thumb warmer is also a real nice add-on in the winter, they are about 40bucks through polaris and work great. If I had to choose only one I'd buy the thumb warmer, you can always resort to mittins to keep your fingers warm but when your thumb is numb ridding suxs.

After almost losing the skin off my right thumb on high setting, I had to cover the thumb throttle with a thick layer of duct tape which still allows the heat through. Feels pretty dumb when your knuckles are frozen and you've got 3rd degree burns on your thumb.
