Sportsman 450 float adjustment
#1
I am getting my over rich bogging and sputtering problem fixed ( my dial a jet just came in? I installed a 162.5 jet ( 2 sizes smaller) put a TPI valve on the air box so that I have a full range of fuel/air adjustments at hand without having to pull the carb during weather changes.
Do any of you guys that own a 2006 sportsman 450 know what the float height adjustment is.? I have not ordered a service manual yet and need to adj the float before I hook everything up.
Thanks!

Well Here it is I got your P.M. But I will post it here for others to read if ever needed:
Float height Sportsman 400/450-BST 34- 13.0 mm
(.51") + or - 1 mm
float height Sportsman 500-BST 40- 14,7 mm
(.58") + or - 1 mm
Also states Float Adjustment Tool (PN 2872314) or a vernier caliper When measuring the height be sure the inlet needle valve spring is NOT compressed!!!!
Hope that helps ...If not P.M. me again and I will give more info if needed!!!...Caper......

You da man! I really appreciate you going out of your way to provide that info!!!!!
I have a pair of digital calipers and will check it tomorrow. I am going to order a manual soon as I find I need it more for adjustment and maintenance, even though I have an extended warranty, we all know how that works!
Thanks again!

I checked the float and it was right at .525 approx, I left it at that height as it makes it a little lean.
Dropped the jet 2 sizes down to a 162.5 and installed a dial-a-jet kit with a TPI
air box valve on the back side of air box. I took it out for an hour test drive to do some tweaking with the dial a jet. What a big difference!!! The dial a jet really helps with acceleration and smoothness over the powerband and gives 2-3 jets sizes of adjustment lean/rich for altitiude and or temp ranges and the air box vent really improves air flow. They claim a 3-5% horsepower improvement along with 10-20% better fuel economy, I still have to test the fuel economy.
The dial a jet is well worth the $70.00. You guys with carbs should consider it.
Thanks for all you help and info!

No. I run the K & N filter, I pulled the plug after my ride and it was a light brown in color, so I think I can lean it out just a touch more if needed. I run between 3000 -6500 feet where I ride.
