07 Raptor 350 Not Running Right
#1
Hey there,
I've posted on here a few times before with other problems, and really appreciate the help that I've been getting here. So far, this has by far been the best ATV site that I have found online. Thanks for providing a great gathering spot online for ATV enthusiasts.
Anyhow, I'm having a problem with my 4 wheeler. It's a Yamaha Raptor 350, and is barely 3 weeks old.
Anyway, here's what happens... The first week I had the bike, it ran perfectly. After that, it got to where it wouldn't run. And when it does run, it doesn't usually run for very long. I thought it might be low fuel. Checked that, and it's a full tank.
I think I have found a temporary remedy, but that still doesn't fix that fact that there IS some sort of a problem.
I've noticed that the only way I can get the quad to run, is if I switch the fuel **** over to the RESERVE setting. Even though the tank is full, I cannot get it to run with it in the ON position. With it in the "ON" position I can only ride for a few minutes until it starts spitting and sputtering, and eventually dies in the middle of riding.
Switch it over to reserve (with a full tank of gas still), and it will usually fire up and run okay.
So in a nutshell, basically the quad will only run with the gas **** in the RESERVE setting. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this, or what the fix would be? I've talked to a few other people I know, and myself, as well as all of them are all clueless...so any help or knowledge into this will be taken with much appreciation.
Thanks for your time,
Shane

The fuel tank has little pickup tubes with filters made onto the petcock. The "on" pickup tube is taller than the "reserve" tube. The filter on the "on" tube is probably stopped up. I would take it back to the dealer and let them fix it under warranty, although it is a simple fix.

There are 2 screws that hold the fuel on/of switch to bottom of the tank. Unscrew them and the whole assembly slides out. You will see the tubes then with the filter screens. You may have to remove the fenders to get to them, you may even have to take the whole tank off. I would run the tank dry or drain it first.
