Default What about jetting?

Thanks for the advice that you guys have been throwing my way. It really helps.

On the 350 raptor:
If I do a new slip on muffler and a new free flowing air filter, do I have to jet the carb? If so, is ther a source to get all the right part and still do some of this stuff myself?

what about the raptor 700? shouldn't the computer be able to figure it out?

Thanks!

On the Raptor 350, you will need to rejet if you go with the exhaust and filter. You could just get a Dynojet jet kit and follow the instructions that come with it. It comes with everything you need, with several jets to fit your needs and altitude level. It is easy to install even if you have limited mechanical ability. If you don't re-jet it with the filter and slip-on, you could risk running your engine starved for fuel which is a "lean" condition and could over heat the piston and blow the engine up. This may sound crazy, but gas acts as a coolant to your engine, so if you don't have enough of it you are going to melt your piston. The jet kit solves this problem by giving you jets with bigger holes to flow more fuel into the cylinder. Also if you want to get the max out of your new go-fast goodies, the carb needs to be jetted corectly.

Thanks for the input Raptor450 and Speedy2222. I am in the Altanta Area so Alitutde is about 900-1200 ASL depending where we are riding.

I air lid idea that I have been reading about is a good idea for most. Should I be concerned that we are really dusty here? I mean can't see 4 feet dusty.

if its that dusty go with a uni foam filter, they dont flow like a k&n but they do filter better. and i agree with speedy2222, an entire jet kit is a waste of money, get a few different sized main jets and maybe one bigger size pilot jet and your all set in under 10 bucks.

Yeah, buying a jet kit is a waste of money....for somebody who knows what they are doing. Seems it could be worth the 50 extra dollars to this guy to get a set of instructions to tell him what to do and exactly where to set the needle jet.

ya if it comes with instructions (with pictures) that tell you exactly how to do it.... it would probably be cheaper than buying $2 jets, trying to rejet and mess up, and then bring it to the dealer to sort it all out.
