Default K&N filter fit on a wolvie

Was servicing my wolvie and I noticed that the K&n filter does not seem to create a good seal and is not real tight with the intake when it is in there. It appears that there is a small gap where the lip of the filter meets the plastic. Has anyone else noticed this? Was i supossed to take something off of the original filter and add to the K&N?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks much

Does the 07 Wolverine still have the famous Yamaha foam lip seal held in place by the lid? To be honest, it would probably be best to change over to a clamp on filter adapter, I don't see why Yamaha has run this type of filter set up for the last 20 years, it is prone to leak if not greased up and installed correctly, depends on the lid to hold it in, just not a good design, when everyone else is running a clamp or flat car-style filter. Not knocking your set up, as you can see, I have one too, just been too cheap and lazy to swap it over, so I guess I can't complain if I don't do something about it !!!!

No the wolverine uses a rubber seal, and mine does not have the gap the poster is describing either

mine fits perfect in the wolverine check and see what part # you got for the K&N air filter I will check mine tonight.
95wolv I wish that someone made an adapter for the newer wolverine but noone makes a aluminum fitting for the clamp on filter.

I'm a bit dissappointed with the fit, too. The end of the filter is a pretty firm rubber and the lid of the airbox is what pushes the filter flat against the font of the airbox. You just never know if you don't have a goot seal. At least the stock filter has the foam ring that would seal off a leak if the front of the filter was not quite seated all the way...

A clamp on version is probably in the future for my Wolfy.
