Default Owners who have traded machines?

Thinking of trading Rincon in for a Foreman / Grizzly.
Talked to a salesman an was going to give me $4800 for a 07'. I I laughed at him.
Has anyone traded in and took a hit like that?
Thankx.........
I MISS MY ENGINE BRAKING from my 450ES I had.

You trade it in for X amount so dealer can sell it to someone else for X amount + profit. Just sell it yourself, same goes with cars.

That's about to be expected, dealer is not going to trade unless he can turn a profit on the trade. ATV's depreciate fast those first few months. Add to that is the fact that most of those mods are basically worthless on a resale or trade. Try selling it outright, then buy the new one.

Use Craig's List!
I sold my rancher in a day.
The best part is that it is free.

Yep, "trading-in" is for people who are too lazy to sell something themselves.

It's also a good choice if you need a quick sell for whatever reason and don't mind losing a bundle of money so that the dealer can make money on it.

well that's not bad compared to here, if anyone in WV trades in an ATV i suggest you don't do it at Dohm Cycles in Charleston. I always knew that the would only pay a little for a used ATV, but I was down there looking at a Grizzly 700 last week and I overheard some people talking right behind me. The dealership wouldn't trade striaght up to some guy, he was wanting to trade a 2005 Honda Foreman for a 2006 Kawi Bayou, and he had to pay like 300 extra dollars.

It depends on the dealer. I traded a 03 Raptor in this year for a Renegade. They gave me 3700. for it and still took another 600. off the Renegade. The avg retail was only about 3900. as far as Kelly blue book value. In addition, I only had to pay tax for the remainder of the Renegade so I only had to pay tax on 5000 for the Renegade. Obviously you're going to take a big hit from the purchase price of what you paid new. I only paid 5500 for my Raptor in 03 and traded it in for almost four years later for 1800. less than what I paid. Smaller dealers will offer you less because they wont be able to hold on to it. Keep in mind the dealer has to front the difference for your new machine until they sell your old one too. This is burdensome for smaller dealers, so they offer you a lot less so the profit they can make on your trade will make it worth while for them to take your trade in. Larger dealers are more likely to offer you a fair market price for your trade in because it isn't necessary to flip your old machine right away and will easily overcome that burden from the profit from the selling price of your new machine. My dealer told me their general rule of thumb is that they try and sell trade it for 500 over what they gave to the original owner. That includes all servicing and minor repairs needed to sell the machine in proper condition. Bottom line, trade in are worth it, if you can get a decent trade in price. Check NADA and Kelly blue book, they both give used values for ATV's.
