older 90-95 300 polaris explorer[fuel mixture ?]

[img]i/expressions/beer.gif[/img][don't even drink]anyway;here's the problem.my dad & brother recently bought used polaris's.dad a 300 exploer 4x4;my brother a 300 express.dad's oil pump quit working and he didn't notice til it was to late!now it needs rebuilt.would it be okay to unplug the oil mixture pump on my brothers and mix the gas? if so what ratio should he mix it?also how many turns out should air screw on carbs be?and if anyone knows where to get the best priced starter for both?i'm going to take them off and test first maybe rebuild them. what usualy goes wrong with the starter on older polaris's [just old or are they known for going bad] sorry so many ?'s first time i've messed around w/polaris'atv's feel free to cmment on any or all!!! thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the mixture would about a 32 to 1 ratio, and the air screw would be around 1 1/2 turns to start with.

my 95 just needed brushes but I would tear it down first. either way,,, ebay is the cheapest source for starters & brushes that I've found. you may also need a drive clutch puller to get at the starter. let me know if you have trouble finding either.

Premix at 40:1 32:1 may foul plugs

Also, make sure that you don't create a vacuum leak when you unhook the oil line/pump. That will cause it to run lean no matter what the mixture. I have been mixing mine at 40:1 and it seems fine so far. Not running hot even in 100+ degree weather, not fouling plugs, and no excessive smoke either. I know it may vary with riding style so just in case. Most of my riding is trail at relatively low speeds. However, I do occasionally take it out on the road and run for a mile or so at full throttle.

thanks !!!!!!!!!everyone!!!!!!!!!i'll let you know how thigs go,you'll probably hear from me alot when i start rebuilding my dads 300 xplorer
