New to my Son: Honda 2002 Sportrax 90
#1
My son has outgrown his Suzuki LT50 and was looking to follow me into the woods - so we picked up a nice used 2002 Honda Sportrax90.
I've gone out to Repairmanuals.com and ordered the Service Manual as the quad came with nothing (not even the owners manual). As we wait for the manual, he's jumped the chain twice in the last three days. Not being ABSOLUTELY sure about how the swingarm adjustment worked I loosened the two top bolts, then the fine adjustment followed by the two lower bolts. I think we did a good job aligning everything but the chain keeps jumping the sprocets.
I've checked the swing-arm bushings/bearings and they have little to no play.
Placed the quad on a milk crate, started it and in 1st gear at low rev the wheels and axle show no sign of being bent or out of alignment; and the chain appears to me to be in a straight shot from front to rear sproket. The adjustment screw is at the VERY end so my hunch is that the chain is stretched and should be replaced.
OK - fine with that. But again, no service manual yet.
I'm out on Dennis Kirk and a few others and have found a range of sprokets (from the cheaper steel to more expensive alum) - but the chain is a problem.
Does anyone know how many links a Honda Sportrax 90 chain should have...? I see a range from 90 links to 130....
I'd like to order front and rear sprokets along with the chain and replace everything - as from what I read that is the prefered "long-term" fix.
Thanks!!!!!
Joe

Found on the pages of eBay:
New Chain and Sprocket Set for Honda TRX 90, 1993-2007 models. The sprockets are stock gearing, 13/50 tooth, with a 428-98 chain.
Ordered a set of new sprokets/chain from an ebayer in MN.
Lot's of great info in these forums!!!!!! Stuff they just don't put into owner and service manuals.
Thanks!!!
