Default Tips for a newbie-ignition

I've had my 04 DS for about 2 years but just recently started exploring the real abilities of the bike after a friend of mine got one already modded. So far it is K&Nd, stage 3 jet kit, along with some decent rims and tires among other things . These mods make for a much more fun ride, but the rev limited stock CDI box is giving me fits running up against other machines on the trails.
The same friend installed a Big Gun CDI box and noticed sigificant improvement, is there anything else out there with more bang for the buck???? Need help---he needs to loose!!!!!:

I would have to say that the big gun is probably the best bang for the buck but for all around performance and reliability the vortex is the only way to go. I want one badly.

Yes Big Gun is a very good cdi, but I would spend the extra dough on a Vortex.
But if you want real good results, install a Lectron 46hv carb, when I put this one piece on mine it completely woke the eng up. Unless you already have one install a good exhaust pipe, that also will help.

What ever you do, do not get a Pro Comm. I bought my DS with an Alba CDI that was just a plain Pro Comm and I had the kick back problem from too much timing at idle.

I have a Big Gun, and have had no problems. Even though it is made by Pro Comm for Big Gun, the curve is better and I have not had any issues with kickback. I feel safe recommending it.

If I could justify it I would have gotten a Vortex. Everyone I know that has one really likes them once they take the time to test the curves and find the one that works bets for them.

Ron Wood Racing also has a good CDI, but it has no rev limiter.

Also if you have not read it yet take a look at OMR's stock carb thread. It really helps a stock carb perform.

I recently bought a Dynatek FS programmable CDI. It's higher than the Big Gun, but cheaper than the vortex. MrHP suggested it for me, for the same price as the vortex I was able to buy the Dyna CDI and the programing kit. Not sure what it is going to be like(haven't gotten it yet), but I'm switching to it from a RWR CDI so I can have some sort of limiter and the ability to program my own curves sounds interesting for the future.

Erik told me about that one. I had forgot we had talked about it. When he told me about it I had wished it was out when I bought my Vortex.....

The Vortex may cost more but it has the ability to be adjusted to suit future mods if you choose to do so.I went from a Big Gun which worked very well for me to a Vortex and once i found the settings that my motor liked it made a huge difference. If i had to do it all again i would have purchased the Vortex to begin with and enjoyed the performance gains from the start.

Dude, where do you find a dynatek for a DS 650? I can't even find it on their own website. I would like to know more but can't find more.
