Default 2007 REcon ES - Starter problems

Bought a new 2007 Honda Recon Es about 3 months ago, within the first month I was stranded as the battery wouldn't tuirn over the enige - leaving me unable to shift via the electric shift system.. I called my honda dealer and he said it sounded like a bad battery.. I went out replaced the battery.. Well 2 months down the road.. It has another starter issue.. I press the electical button in to start the Es250 and the starter spins for about 1/2 second drags and then the realy under that tail section near the battery then begins to click,, it clciks but no more dragging of the starter nothing.. it will not start.. I can pull on the rope and start it and it will run fine and shift.. ANyone know what gives.. I cehceked connections at the battery and they are tight and fine.

I would take it to the honda dealer and get it serviced but if it is simple I will just get the part and cla it good, as I workl 7 days a week and have no time to take it for repair anyways..

Experts??? thanks

First off, there is a manual shift lever in your tool kit, so you can get it back into neutral. Then, it has a recoil starter (did you not know that???), so you just start it up (even without a tow) and ride home if it happens out on the trail.

I would say you have a short somewhere, or you are leaving the key on when you are done riding (???).

IF you read it throughout ,I stated that IT WILL START VIA THE RECOIL, and Yes, I used the manual shift but the electric shift would not work,, I didn't buy it so I can manually shift it.. that would be the whole point. of owning the ES model.... Stranded yes, completely NO.. Sorry you didn't read better...

What kind of dip$hit forgets and leaves the key on???

Dude, they provide the manual shifter for when the ES fails, so you can get it into neutral and get it restarted, or at least to get it back into neutral so you can tow it home if you can't get it started at all.

And, you never mentioned a RECOIL STARTER. You did mention "pulling on a rope", which sounded to me like you were tow starting it by pulling it with another quad.

Anyway, just another example of why it is best to not ever get an ES!

DUDE, Pulling on a rope (recoil start ) is not the same in English as "BEING PULLED BY A ROPE". Again an example of not reading. Being 14 and answering is not the same as beign 41 and knowing what you are talking about...

I am looking for answers of common problems with this model, not Reading problems.....

If you are 14, I was riding a Recon when you were in diapers!

PM your email address and I will email you the charging section from the 2005-07 TRX250TE PDF shop manual .. The tests are there if you want to test the system yourself ...

Did you check the fuses. We ran into the same problem with a Rancher ES last summer.
