i've had my ds for about 2 months now and love it, its a 2000. this is the first atv i've ever owned and was wondering whats best for some first upgrades, it appears to be completely stock right now except for a 38 tooth sprocket on the axle and slightly bigger tires then what came on it stock. i seem to be only able to pull it up in 2nd gear so i wouldnt mind a little more throttle response out of it. it seems to be running good and is dead even in a race against a 05 ds with a k + n filter. so i'm looking for suggestions to increase the power a little.

First I would adjust your gearing. Drop the front down to a 15, and take the rear up to a 42. I would also add the K&N filter and a good slip on exhaust for your basic starter. Also check out the OMR stock carb mods for some great cheap improvments..... Those right there will be huge gains for you....

i dont think i'll change the gearing since i do quite a bit of road running with it. is there alot of gain with the air filter? whats the best exhaust considering price sound and performance? where do i check out these OMR carb mods? as for the rev box it seems to be screamin now when i hit the limiter, i'll have to take a closer look tomorrow to see if there isnt one on it now. i do think i'll get a 520 chain but the one i have now is almost new so i'll wear it out a bit first. also what kinda of jetting do i have to do for these changes? i really know nothing about carbs but i know friends of mine have to re-jet after every little change. where do you guys get your parts? i dont seem to find a whole lot of stuff on ebay.

Search will be your friend on this forum. Search for carb mods, gearing, tires, etc. There is a lot of potential. Almost every time I have a question I start with a search before posting. Most time I find my answer.
On air filters the only dyno numbers I have seen were put up by MR.HP. No gain for K&N, but cheaper than stock and you can clean it. The No-Toil had a little gain, like 1hp, and the gain grew as the mods did.

Your two top choices in my opinion for your exhaust. I would either go with the Top Gun from Eric, or an HMF sport slip on....By far the best one is the Top Gun.
If you do not have a new rev box on there, the combination of the extra RPMs you can gain with one and a minor drop in gearing will give you faster revving bike. The 520, and some lighter rims then the stockers will help greatly with that also.
Anytime you change airflow (carb mods, exhaust, filter) will require some jetting changes. Pilot jet or needle, or main jet possibly. We can guide you live or you can use the search mode there also. But we can give you an idea of a close jet to try....

I have yet to see any pipe touch the Ron woods as a complete single system. It stands by itself in preformance but if your into wheelying then you should know if it gose over backwards you might hit your pipe with the Ron woods. If its a complete carburation preformance system your after go with a FCR carb with a six inch straight tube and a K&N and a good porting job.don't get ripped on the porting either. This package with good cdi and proper jetting will stand you in all gears.
