Hey guys.....I was just changing the oil in my raptor for the first time and I was reading the manual to see how much oil it takes. I am replacing the filter too. It says 2.0 quarts for periodic change( I assume that is w/o filter) then it says with filter 2.07, then it says total amount 2.43. This is very confusing. what is the total amount....I thought the total amount was with filter and that was 2.07. I also put in almost 2 quarts and it started spewing over the edge. Do I just have to wait for it to all settle down? How long should I wait for it to settle? And how much oil do I put in? Thanks

 

there are 2 drain plugs on the raptor one on the bottom of the motor and one on the oil tank did u drain both?

 

yup.....i forgot to mention......i haven't started it yet....should i do that to let the oil flow through it?

Start the quad up and run it for about 30 seconds then shut it off. Recheck the level and add if necessary.

 

After draining both the crankcase and the sump and putting the plugs (bolts back in) add about one and a half quarts....put dipstick back in and start it for half a minute...then add the rest of the second quart....if you changed the filter then I believe what they mean in the book is 2.07 and that is just a little bit of a third quart. The 2.47 is the total fill but you cant drain it all out....their is still some in diffferent places like the lines and such...first time I changed mine I made a total mess...lesson learned!

 

the run for a few seconds answer is the right one. I think I got close to 2 1/2 qts in before I showed a full reservoir.

 

Thanks everyone! I started it and the oil level went back down. I makes a mess draining the oil out of the oil tank!!!

 

For draining the tank, I made a funnel out of a old plastic quart bottle (oil container). I cut it in half and taped a piece of old garden hose to the mouth of it (about 14"). It can be squeezed in to the frame and the hose will reach your oil drain pan. Still somewhat messy sometimes, but better than nothing.
My undeerstanding is the engine has 2 oil pumps. One feeds the engine and the other returns the oil to the dry sump canister.
