Default 06 TRX450er Motor Oil

Can anyone tell me why the owner's manual for the TRX450ER calls for 28.2oz of oil when that much oil over fills the quad?? I just changed my oil, put in 20oz, and ran the bike for about 10 minutes. I then let it sit for 15 minutes and the oil glass was reading at the high level? Can anyone shed some light on this and does anyone know the correct amount? I am running the Honda 10w 40 with Moly. Also, I am filling the transmission oil with 23oz, is that correct? Thanks in advance....

Just fill it to the high water mark (on a warmed up engine), and forget the numbers!

It is best to overfill the trans. Some of the gears are only lubed by splash, so it is best to overfill the trans by 100 cc or so to be sure they will always get lubed. Fill it to where it comes out the weep hole, then add an extra 100 cc. (Dirt bike guys have learned to run a full quart, but in mid year 07 Honda fixed the dirt bike problem. Not sure what, if anything they did for the quad.)
