98 Sportsman wont shut off.... Help
#1
I have a 98 Sportsman 500 that the magneto come apart on so I bought a new fly wheel and stator and replaced them while it was down I also purchased an after market CDI and replaced, it is supposed to increase top speed (not that I needed to) however I guess when I removed the CDI and didn't pay close enough attention to where the thing plugs into on the circut board and now it starts and runs fine but wont shut off, can anyone tell me where I screwed up?
There is only 2 wires that could be wrong, that black I plugged into the circut board (where it says BLK) and the white and blue I pluged into the coil. By the way I put the old CDI back on and it still does the same thing, I know that I must have it wired wrong, it worked fine before. I turn the switch off and the key off and it still runs only stops when I pull the wire off the coil.

most of the time black is the ground. any way you could hook the black up to the ground to see if grounds it out? if dont work then try white same way. just sounds like your missing the ground(unhooked) to ground it out. just a guess.

Did you buy the stator coil assembly only? Or the stator coils with the stator plate? If you bought just the coils, there is a brown wire(ground) that can be easily missed reinstalling just the coils to the stator plate. I DON"T know if it could cause your problem of not shutting off but I thought I would post it just in case.
The black wire is the ground, You didn't knock any other black wires off while removing or reinstalling did you? It's also possible if the black wire has the protective coating that you may have missed the terminal and the covering is holding it on.
The white/blue wire goes to the coil.
Hope this helps.
