Default 200sx motor isues!

I'm closer to finishing my project 86' 200sx. I got the motor back together, bored 1mm, new piston, rebuilt head and web stage 2 cam. After a trip up to denis kirk last friday for a few last minute parts. Easiest engine I've had to get started first pull and it fired right up. Let it run for 20 min to break in the Web cam.

Pulled the plug and it was coal black running at 2000-3000 rpms for 20min. I expected that it would take me a while to get the carb jetted correct. With the motor mods, uni air filter/no stock air box and pipe. But this was with stock jets in so I didn't think it would run that rich at high idle. I still need to play with the fuel screw maybe that will fix it. Any suggestions?

i am more concerned about your breakin, that steady RPM method is for just replaceing the cam, since you did rings and pistion you should take this guys advice:

as for you jettng question, I would run it full throttle down the street in 5th and as it reaches peak rpm then turn the ignition off while holding it full throttle, pull up on the shifter and let the engine die. pull the plug and check its color. prob tanish white. maybe just one step larger main jet, modes as yours really dont change the pilot or air-screw much and most often only need more at full throttle. sometimes raising the needle one notch but not often.

Yes, the 2k-3k for 15-20 min. Was per web cams break in procedures. Not for engine break in. And that is yet to come as its still on the stand. And not rolling yet. Another thing I thought it could be is from idling to long. But I won't be able to get it straight till I get it rolling down the road.

I now have to pull the clutch cover off. With the motor off I shifted up to 1st. Now its stuck will not shift down to neutral. Or is this a common problem with a new clutch? I'm sure I screwed something up putting it back together. And get the front drums put back together. And I should be able to slap the plastic and tires back on.

Loosen the locknut and turn the screw in the center of it counterclockwise until you feel resistance. Then turn it clockwise a 1/4 turn and tighten the locknut. However, although some recommend this be done with the engine cold and some with the engine warm, I have always adjusted them after a brief warmup period and have not had any issues.

Thanks for every ones help. Shes now running around. Still needs some jet work done on the top end. And the few minutes I did ride it this weekend with out plastic. I quickly remembered how tippy this little quad is. Stud extensions are in order to hopefully fix that. Also went to a twist throttle and boy is that wierd. I've rode friends dirt bikes and never had a problem. It'll take some time to get used to that one.

Now I just need to finish bleeding the front brakes and put the plastic back on and register the little beast. And I can tear it up!
